International day for the girl child is a day set aside globally to celebrate girls and recognized their contributions in making the world a better place. Songtaba took the opportunity to launch one of flagship programmes in the school, ie, the girls club concept

Ponaa junior high school is the only girl’s school in the Nanumba north district, among the objectives of its establishment is to promote quality education for the girl child. Hence the need to partner with Songtaba, a women’s right organization, which aim at promoting and protecting the rights of women and children through quality education. As an inaugural ceremony to commemorate the partnership between the school and Songtaba, two girls club were launch at the school campus on 13th October, 2017.

The event brought together  300 girls from the school, 12 staff members(4 women and 8men), a CHRAJ Officer and an experience girls club mentor from little flower daycare, to  the inauguration of the two girls clubs, made of thirty-five members each.

Mr. Ibrahim, the Assistant head teacher on behalf of the head teacher thanked Songtaba for such wonderful opportunity in the school. He hope and wish such activities and programmes continue to come on their school to support improve girls education and performance at large.

Madam wasila also took the girl clubs members through club composition, importance of being a member, leadership and responsibilities of girls club.  The girls were excited to meet and listen to this wonderful inspirational talk.

Mr Augustine (commission on human rights and administrative officer of the district) educated them on their rights, responsibilities, how to challenge and channels of reporting violence cases. He encourages them to always challenge the culture of violence and report to the appropriate authority when persisted. According to him the first point of call when confronted with violence case in school is the school authority. Other authorities/institutions mentioned were CHRAJ, DOVVSU, Social welfare, legal aid etc.

Members were excited to listen to these experts from Ghana education service and commission on human rights and administrative justice.  The school could not hide their joy by thanking and appreciating the efforts of Songtaba and its cherished donors in the promotion and protecting of women and girls rights through quality education.
