Ntiibe, A fifteen year old JHS two pupil at Sang vigorously campaigned for more members for her club, when she requested to share her experience as girl’s club president with her colleagues on the occasion of community participatory review and reflection meeting at her community. She shared the benefits and importance of being a member of girls club and encourages colleagues to join in order to tap into the rich experience of girl’s club activities. This is what she has for her colleagues:
“I thank Songtaba for establishing and supporting girls club in my school, I also encourage my colleagues to join the club due to the benefits it has for students, most especially girls. At first it was difficult for me to ask questions in class, because I always shivered in an attempt to ask questions in class, and believed it is a shame to make mistake before colleagues. Hence I always responded yes to every question posed by my teacher to confirm our understanding of a lesson delivered. These attitudes and behaviors in class affected my performance in both class and end of term examination.
However, when I join the girls club at primary six, there were series of activities that made us to interact at the club level. These activities and other training from Songtaba has improved my performance, I can now ask question in class for clarity if I do not understand something in class. The training we had on leadership, rights and responsibilities of a girl child convinces me to contest and won the position of girl’s prefect when I was in class six. Now I am the president of girls club in my school, which I never thought was possible before joining the girls club. I therefore encourage my colleagues whether primary or junior high school to try and join the girls club, it builds our capacity to take up leadership position without being afraid.
Once again, I thank Songtaba and it donors for this wonderful opportunity in our school, may God bless them to continue supporting us.”
