Empowering Girls in School

Songtaba in this quarter provided a platform for old girls club and new members to tap into each other rich experience to adopt best practice to improve their lives. The experience sharing and learning inspired new members to aspire to position and above the old members. 20 Senior High School and Tertiary girls had thoughtful interaction with 1225 girls across Nanumba North and South district. Each shared successes and benefits achieved as club member, both at Senior High School and Tertiary level. Mentioned were made on position, titles and training attended   through the activities of girls clubs. They advised new members to actively participate in the activities of girls club to build confidence and capacity to participate in decision making at all levels.

Among experience shared include, a 16 years old Alima, Former vice president of Nanumba girls club movement, “I am the current president of girls club in my school (our Lady of Peace). The club has made me a very good leader as far as organizing my colleague for an activity is concern. Through the activities of girls club, I had the chance of speaking on radio for the first time in my life, I was so excited and hope to appear on television one day”

New club members could not hide their joy and thanked them for the inspiration gained. Many said they were motivated and made commitment to actively participate in activities of girls club in and out of school. This is what Mss  Zakirat has to say, “I am a new member to the girls club but very happy for the experiences shared. I will do all my possible best to always take part in club activities both at the school and at community level in order to gain experience to share and inspire others one day”.

 Songtaba continues to build the capacities and strengthen the confidence levels of girls through this girls club model. It is a model that the organisation has used for the more than a decade and has successfully engaged many youg adolescents who are now contrubuting positively to  their communities and mentoring other upcoming adolescents.
