The right to non –discrimination is an essential right that needs to be adopted and practice by all schools. This kind of rights advocate that, School must not make any distinction in provision base on sex, race, color, ,language, religion ,political option, nationality, ethnicity, ability, or any other status.
In advocating for the adoption and practicing of this rights in schools, Songtaba and its partners embarked on a vigorous campaign in all programme schools through role play and drama. Girl’s club members are supported to perform role plays that recognize the role of women/ girls in the development of society and Ghana as a whole. The role play recognizes that, effective teaching and learning in schools is a collective responsibility of both female and male, and no subject is attributed to any particular sex in school. Both sexes can teach or learn any subject without discrimination. And that teacher should not relegate the effective teaching and learning of girls to only discipline that talk about cooking and washing. Women are not naturally made to cook and wash dishes at home, men can equally do same.
The role play also educated students and teachers on the essential role girls /women play in promoting food security in their society and in Ghana as a whole. It shows how girls and women can be good farmers in supporting their family and the society they live, mentioned was made on women prominent farmers who made it to different level within country. Many women farmers were recognized and awarded at the district, regional and even nation level in different categories as best farmers.
The activity aimed at sensitizing parents, teachers and all stake holders who play a diverse role in the development of a child, most especially those in school to treat both boys and girls without gender discrimination. No profession in the world is an exclusive right of a particular sex, hence teachers should encourage all students to learn profession they are capable of doing. Even at home parents should not make any distinction in the role perform by boys and girls. Both sexes should be educated to recognize and appreciate all kind s of work without gender discrimination. This role play brought together all categories of person at the school environment, students, teachers and other relevant stakeholders to support in the promotion of right to non-discrimination in school.
