1. Introduction
Future Families is pleased to provide this update on the Empower Families Through Entrepreneurship in South Africa project. This initiative aims to equip vulnerable caregivers and community members with the knowledge, skills, and support required to establish and grow sustainable micro-businesses, thereby strengthening household resilience and promoting long-term economic independence.
During the reporting period, the programme continued to strengthen its entrepreneurship support systems through training, mentorship, business development services, and enterprise support. Although no donations were received through the GlobalGiving campaign during this reporting period, Future Families remained committed to advancing the programme using funding secured from other partners and organisational resources.
2. Programme Overview
Future Families' Economic Empowerment Division continued implementing activities designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs through practical business development interventions.
Programme activities included:
Entrepreneurship training using internationally recognised International Labour Organisation (ILO) methodologies.
Individual business mentorship and coaching.
Financial literacy and bookkeeping support.
Assistance with business registration and regulatory compliance.
Marketing and digital business support.
Enterprise development and investment readiness.
These services continue to strengthen entrepreneurs' ability to build sustainable businesses that improve household income and create employment opportunities within their communities.
3. Programme Progress During the Reporting Period
The programme continued to support entrepreneurs across several economic sectors through skills development and enterprise support.
During this period:
83 entrepreneurs successfully completed technical and business-related training.
Participants included 75 migrant women and 8 women from host communities, promoting both economic inclusion and social cohesion.
Training was provided in the following sectors:
Nails – 31 participants
Hairdressing – 16 participants
Sewing – 18 participants
Make-up – 13 participants
Baking – 5 participants
Following training and the provision of start-up support, participants generated encouraging levels of business activity.

These results demonstrate the positive impact that practical skills development, mentorship, and enterprise support can have on increasing household income and improving financial resilience.
4. GlobalGiving Campaign Update
During this reporting period, no donations were received through the GlobalGiving campaign for this project.
Despite the absence of new donations, Future Families continued implementing entrepreneurship activities through support received from other funding partners. This ensured that beneficiaries continued receiving training, mentorship, and business development services without interruption.
Future Families remains grateful to GlobalGiving for providing a platform that enables organisations to connect with supporters around the world. We remain committed to sharing programme progress and growing awareness of the project's impact as fundraising efforts continue.
5. Looking Ahead
Over the coming months, Future Families aims to:
Expand entrepreneurship training opportunities.
Continue mentoring existing entrepreneurs.
Support additional micro-business start-ups.
Strengthen market access through networking opportunities.
Prepare entrepreneurs to become investment-ready and access future funding opportunities.
As additional resources become available through GlobalGiving and other funding partners, the organisation hopes to increase the number of vulnerable families benefiting from sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Future Families sincerely appreciates the opportunity to showcase this initiative through the GlobalGiving platform.
Although no GlobalGiving donations were received during this reporting period, the programme continues to create meaningful opportunities for vulnerable families by equipping aspiring entrepreneurs with practical skills, mentorship, and business development support.
