EMPOWER AND REBUILD HOPE
Educating and Empowering 870 Teenage Mothers
Project Locations: Kangai, Kirinyaga County & Kamulu, Nairobi/Machakos
Project Duration: Three Months
Total Project Expenditure: USD 4,058

1. Executive Summary
The Empower and Rebuild Hope project supported teenage mothers in Kangai and Kamulu whose education and livelihoods were disrupted by early pregnancy and difficult circumstances.
Over three months, the project provided education support, mentorship, counseling, practical skills and livelihood assistance. Several young mothers returned to school, while others began self-employment.
Implementation was challenging because of limited funding. Activities were supplemented by farming income, rental income from the CEO’s properties, donations and personal contributions.
Total expenditure was USD 4,058.

2. Background
Teenage pregnancy often leads to stigma, poverty, family rejection, interrupted education and limited opportunities. In Kangai and Kamulu, many young mothers wanted to rebuild their lives but lacked the necessary support.
The project provided practical assistance while restoring hope, confidence and dignity.

3. Project Objectives
The project aimed to:
Support young mothers to return to education.
Provide practical and vocational skills.
Offer counseling, mentorship and emotional support.
Promote sustainable livelihoods and self-employment.
Reduce vulnerability and dependency.
Strengthen community support for adolescent mothers.

4. Areas of Implementation
A. Kangai, Kirinyaga County
Activities focused on education, mentorship, skills development and livelihood support for young mothers from vulnerable households. Several beneficiaries began small income-generating activities.
B. Kamulu

5. Key Activities
Education support and school continuation.
Mentorship and life-skills sessions.

Vocational and entrepreneurship guidance.
Livelihood and self-employment support.

6. Key Achievements
Return to Education
Several teenage mothers returned to school and joined high school, demonstrating that motherhood does not have to end their education.
Transition to Self-Employment
Several beneficiaries began self-employment and small income-generating activities, reducing their dependence on others.
Increased Hope and Confidence
Mentorship and counseling helped young mothers address challenges, plan for the future and rebuild their confidence.

8. Resource Mobilization and Sustainability
The project faced significant funding constraints. Activities were supported through:
Farming income.
Rental income from the CEO’s properties.
Donations and well-wisher contributions.
In-kind support.
Personal contributions.
These sources helped bridge funding gaps but are not sustainable long term. A stronger and more predictable funding base is needed.
9. Challenges
Inadequate funding.
Poverty among beneficiary families.
Interrupted education.
Limited livelihood opportunities and startup capital.
Dependence on limited internal resources.
10. Lessons Learned
Young mothers can return to school with proper support.
Skills training can promote economic independence.
Counseling and mentorship are essential.
Small livelihood grants can make a meaningful difference.
Education and economic empowerment must be addressed together.
Sustainable funding is necessary for expansion.
11. Next Steps
The organization plans to:
Increase support for young mothers returning to school.
Expand vocational training.
Provide startup kits.
Strengthen counseling, mentorship and follow-up.
Reach more vulnerable adolescent mothers.
Build partnerships with schools, donors, businesses and training institutions.
Develop sustainable income-generating initiatives.
12. Planned Fundraiser
The organization plans to launch a fundraising campaign to:
Keep teenage mothers in school.
Provide fees and learning materials.
Support vocational training.
Provide startup kits.
Expand counseling and mentorship.
Support vulnerable mothers with basic needs.
Strengthen follow-up and reach more beneficiaries.
We invite partners, churches, foundations, businesses and well-wishers to support the belief that every young mother deserves a second chance.
13. Conclusion
The three-month Empower and Rebuild Hope project showed that teenage mothers can return to school, develop skills and begin building independent livelihoods when given support.
However, the need remains greater than our current capacity. Additional resources will enable more young mothers to pursue education, acquire skills and contribute positively to their families and communities.
Pregnancy may interrupt a girl's education, but it should never end her future.
Empower. Rebuild. Restore Hope.
