Karigari, meaning "Being Able," is more than just skill training—it is the foundation of economic independence and self-worth. Through Literacy India’s Project Karigari, we are shaping a generation of trailblazers—women and youth who are not just learning skills but mastering the art of sustainable living and dignified livelihood.
From Grassroots to the Digital Future
The Karigari Grassroot Skills Program unlocks creativity, spanning fields from Stitching and Dressmaking to Beauty & Wellness, Painting, Embroidery, and Basic IT Skills. It also extends into Future Skills, bridging the gap between traditional expertise and the demands of the digital economy.
Recognizing that women and youth are key drivers of sustainable development, Karigari addresses two crucial areas:
For over two decades, Literacy India has pioneered technology-aided education, keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With government policies shifting towards job-ready skills, Karigari ensures that no learner is left behind.
Beyond the Curriculum: Building Future-Ready Individuals
Education must transcend textbooks—and that’s where Literacy India’s Future Skill Project comes in. Through hands-on projects, students sharpen critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, making them not just job seekers, but job creators.
Skill Pathways That Transform Lives
A Blueprint for Impact: Our Approach
At Literacy India, we believe that skill-building is not just about livelihood—it’s about empowerment. By focusing on urban youth, particularly young women, we are redefining career pathways, fostering resilience, and shaping a future where no ambition is out of reach.
Name: Sakha Saha ( Name Changed) Age : 21 Location : Gurugram
Born in Neoria village, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, Sakha Saha (name changed) always aspired for more despite facing challenges early in life. With her father working as a cab driver away from home and her mother managing the household along with her younger brother, Sakshi made a bold decision—to live independently in Sector 55, Gurgaon, to pursue her education and career goals.
Determined to carve her own path, she completed her 12th grade at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gurugram, and then enrolled in Government College for Girls for a B.Com degree, with a clear vision of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Living alone in a bustling metro city was tough, but she remained undeterred. To support herself, she took up a job as a cashier at Domino’s, earning 14,000 per month while balancing her studies. While working, she discovered the company offered various career growth opportunities, including roles in finance and accountancy, reinforcing her commitment to her goal.
Her career trajectory took a significant turn when she joined Literacy India’s IT program. Previously, she had attempted to take courses at different centers but struggled to manage them alongside her job. However, Literacy India's program, scheduled conveniently during her college hours, allowed her to gain essential skills in Advanced MS Excel—enhancing her efficiency at work.
Literacy India is privileged to have many dedicated professionals who volunteer their time to support aspiring learners. One such volunteer, a Chartered Accountant, conducted a session at her college, sharing insights and guidance. Inspired by this interaction, Sakshi sought further mentorship from her trainers. With Literacy India’s support, she enrolled in an online Tally course—an essential step toward her career in finance—enabling her to balance work, studies, and skill-building.
Through perseverance and continuous learning, Sakshi is breaking barriers and proving that determination paves the way for success. With each step, she moves closer to her dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant, driven by ambition and the belief that knowledge is the key to a brighter future.
