From Grassroots to the Digital Future
The Karigari Grassroot Skills Program unlocks creativity and potential across a wide spectrum—from Stitching and Dressmaking to Beauty and wellness, Painting, Electrical Training, Mobile Repairing, Embroidery, and Basic IT Skills.
It also extends into Future Skills, bridging the gap between traditional expertise and the demands of the digital economy.
Recognizing that women and youth are key drivers of sustainable development, Karigari focuses on two crucial domains:
For over two decades, Literacy India has been a pioneer in technology-aided education, staying in step with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. As government policy shifts toward job-ready skill-building, Karigari ensures that no learner is left behind.
A Blueprint for Impact: Our Approach
At Literacy India, we believe that skill-building is not just about livelihood—it’s about empowerment. With a special focus on urban youth, particularly young women, we’re redefining career pathways, fostering resilience, and shaping a future where no dream is out of reach.
Story of Change: Neema (Name Changed) From Rural Roots to a Career in Electronics
Neema, a young woman from Chandankiyari, Bokaro district, Jharkhand, grew up in a farming family struggling to make ends meet. Her father, a seasonal farmer, and her mother, a homemaker, worked hard to support her basic education—something that wasn’t easy to complete. But Neema never gave up on her dreams.
Her journey began at Literacy India’s Jharna Centre, where she first joined the Tailoring Training Program. Though she was sincere and disciplined, her curiosity soon led her to explore another course—Mobile Assembling Training.
Fascinated by the technical world and inspired by former trainees who had found stable jobs, she made a bold switch. Guided by her trainers, Neema quickly absorbed skills like circuit testing, mobile part assembly, safety protocols, and professional ethics.
Today, she is employed at TATA Electronics in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, where she works in the Tool Crib Department on the iPhone production line. She earns 18,500 per month, with residential and transport facilities, and proudly supports her family back home.
Neema’s story doesn’t stop there. Motivated by her transformation, she plans to pursue further technical certifications and frequently returns to the Jharna Centre to encourage other girls to follow their dreams.
“I never thought I’d work in a company like TATA Electronics, assembling parts for devices used around the world. I’m grateful to Literacy India for showing me this path.”
– Neema (Name Changed)
Neema’s journey is a powerful reminder that developing a skill never goes waste. At Literacy India, we ensure that every beneficiary—regardless of background—becomes resilient, self-reliant, and future-ready.
