*REPORT: URGENT - HELP A CHILD RETURN TO SCHOOL READY TO LEARN*
*1. BACKGROUND*
The new school term is opening in Uganda, yet many children in the slum communities we serve are not ready to return. Due to extreme poverty, they lack uniforms, books, school fees, and even daily meals. Without these essentials, a child cannot return to class with confidence and dignity.
*2. OBJECTIVES*
Our urgent goal is to make every child ready to learn by:
- Providing school uniforms and shoes
- Providing scholastic materials (books, pens)
- Paying school fees
- Providing daily meals and basic care
*3. ACTIVITIES DONE*
In this period, we have:
- Equipped 150 children with uniforms, books, and pens
- Paid school fees for 45 most vulnerable children
- Provided daily meals to 200+ children to improve concentration
- Provided shelter and care for 12 homeless children
- Conducted family counseling and home visits to prepare households
*4. ACHIEVEMENTS*
- 520+ children are ready to return to school this term
- Learners are now confident, not ashamed
- Learners are fed, not hungry, in class
- Improved attendance and community confidence in our work
*5. CHALLENGES*
- Many children are still not ready due to limited funds
- Daily food is not enough for all 520 learners
- We operate in rented premises - no own land/school
- Rising cost of school fees and materials
- Limited staff and lack of transport
*6. WAY FORWARD*
- Urgently raise support for Readiness Kits (uniform + books + fees)
- Expand our feeding program to cover all 520 children daily
- Secure own land and classrooms for sustainability
- Start income-generating projects
*7. CONCLUSION & URGENT APPEAL*
