Recently we started sending Art Kits to classrooms in rural Turkish schools.  Thank you for your continued support...  Our newest project is called BTF Art4Kids... Every child in her/his inner world is a real artist. Unfortunately, children in rural areas do not have the opportunity to reveal the artistic talents due to socio-economicinadequacies. We wanted to launch a project and introduce the children in all the rural areas to art, and make the world a better place with art.

Global Giving donors support is very important making a difference and empowering the rural students by giving them hope through the power of art.

As BTF, we believe that the art / STEAM movement will have a positive effect on education, so we aimed to add the Elementary School Arts Set to the 4Kids projects for rural area schools. Experts advise that the highest level of recycling investments in education correspond to preschool and elementary school, so that visual arts education should start early on. The pre-school period is the period when children develop their mental, social, emotional, muscular, and nervous systems. Therefore, art education in this period allows the child to be stimulated more. This brings about a better development.

Technological developments in today’s world, STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) caused an increase in the number of projects. No matter what you do with in real life, you need creativity, a strong imagination, critical thinking, application of information, and good relationships with people. The most effective way to bring these talents to people is through good education. These achievements will not be provided with only STEM programs in education, but the tendency to be possible with the STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Mathematics) approach is increasing.

BENEFITS OF ART

Art helps children develop fine motor skills:

Playing with materials like clay, using paintbrushes, cutting things with scissors, using stickers, etc. This helps improve the hand eye co-ordination of the children, along with their skills and fine motor development. This will help kids with their writing skills in the future.

Art contributes to social emotional and language development:

Children develop their language development through art, expressing themselves verbally using symbols and objects. Through group work, they improve communication with their friends, learn to cooperate, become leaders, and increase their confidence.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

• To support the creativity of the students, to ensure aesthetic values and artistic sensitivity,

• Supporting children, all development areas through art,

• To ensure that children use their own senses effectively,

• To allow children to live their freedom of thought and movement through artistic activities,

• To create productive, self-confident participating, responsible individuals with what they put forward,

• Ensuring that children get an interesting field experience,

• Ensure that they are able to take responsibility, be sensitive to the protection and development of the environment,

FEEDBACKS FROM THE PILOT RURAL AREA SCHOOLS:

Degirmenüstü Elementary School / Beseri-Batman

Recep Teacher’s Note:

“We opened the package with the students, and the first reaction of a student: My teacher, is this all ours? It was. The economic level of our students is generally lower than their peers living in the city. it is often very difficult to get good quality and enough material. I know that students know that the picture book is not to use the back-front of the page, so that the paint is not enough to use the pen to complete the paintings, using the materials in a common way with his brothers …With these materials, they are more free in these matters and they are more certain than the works they do and the happiness they face. Like art, the child is completely free and it is a great chance that she/he has enough and variety of materials in an area where the child can express her/himself. They were very surprised when we told our students that our friends were living in America. Even if they were too far away, it made them very happy to have someone who was thinking about themselves. And I’m sure that they know it and their self-confidence. I would like to thank this beautiful community for myself, my teacher friends, and all my students.”

Sarbugday Elementary School / Hamur-Agri

ZelihaTeacher’s Note:

“There is sufficient amount of everything in our Art Set. It fits the children’s level of development. Each material is handy and in sufficient quantities. We, as Sarbugday Elementary School, send you lots of love and thanks. Whether you’re miles away, you’re heart-touching the children’s little hearts. We are grateful to you. Thanks again for everything.”

Sehit Er Inan Akçam Elementary & Middle School / Bagdesen—Ardahan

Busra Teacher’s Note:

“First of all, I would like to thank you among myself and my children. The materials you sent came on top of what my class needed. The excess and variety of materials is very useful for the efficiency of our activities. I’m grateful to think of us in this beautiful project.”

Papatya Kindergarten/ Beseri- Batman

Selma Teacher’s Note:

“You know, that kids know they can live happiness even with the smallest things Your touches have brought great happiness to both children and us. The set that you have sent, many of the materials we felt lacked made our work very easy. Thanks to the rich content they provide to children, they were able to address them directly. When they opened our gifts, they were eagerly waiting to see what they would come up with. We tell them about you. We say that your sisters / brothers who have been living in the distance sent you these gifts. The beads in the set were not used by the children. It makes them very excited to make new events. Children are more willing to participate in the event. I thank everyone for everything. May the happiness of children’s eyes reach you.”

Maz Elementary School / Ürgüp Nevsehir

 Hatice Teacher’s Note:

“Sometimes people can’t find the right words to describe the happiness of children. Thank you very much, you have brought great happiness for my children. We have a lot of activity materials. I am very pleased with the amount of materials sent. Obviously I couldn’t find anything missing, all of them good quality and very useful. I’ve had all my deficiencies in supplies solved for art activities. Thank you very much again. I feel very lucky for myself and my children for finding you.”

Ballca Elementary School / Akhisar-Manisa

 Gözde Teacher’s Note:

“I thank you very much for supporting the education of small children from far away.”

Turan Elementary School / Dülkadiroglu—Kahraman Maras

Ömer Teacher’s Note:

“Thank you very much for the help you have made in Turan Elementary School. Our school is located in a poor neighborhood, so students have trouble getting school supplies. Incoming materials helped us to do our job easily and comfortably. The materials are of good quality and very useful. Thank you again.”

Çandarl Mehmet Dilsiz Middle School / Dikili—Izmir

Meliha Teacher’s Note:

“We received the Art Kit, the happiness of the little children was seen in their eyes. It was a good case study to teach them how important it was to help them. We told the children that the materials were sent to you from far away, and they all thought about you. They were all very happy. We send the smiles and kisses to all of your volunteers. Your work should be exemplary and there should be a light to other people. The teaching profession starts by touching the hearts. I thank you on behalf of all my colleagues for your help. We are ready to do whatever we can to develop a society that attaches importance to art and science.”

Ekinciler Elementary School / Mardin

Hüseyin Teacher’s Note:

“We started to use the materials of the art set you sent. We have very nice activities. It was a rich art set that we never used before. Our children’s hand skills, small muscle development and creative thinking skills will make a great contribution. I would like to thank each one of you for your contributions to our children’s development and our happiness.”

                                     Art4Kids—one set $250

No matter how talented a person is, artists can not show her/his talent and artworks without art supplies. To support artists of the future from this day, $250 will be enough to cover the art material needs of a classroom.

Time to read...
Time to read...

We are grateful to our generous global giving donors like you for supporting our projects and our efforts. As a result of your unwavering support and generous donations, we are able to create empowering and inspiring projects like Books4Kids, EducationalToys4Kids, Dictionaries4Kids, Art4Kids, Science4Kids, Schoolbags4Kids, Boots4Kids, Coats4Kids and most probably more projects coming in the near future...

In this report, we are going to highlight our Books4Kids project to let you know how your support is making a difference and how it is empowering the rural students by giving them hope through the power of reading...Studies let us know that daily reading helps improve student success, increase fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and grammar while nurturing creativity, critical thinking as well as challenging students to be better readers...

Since the beginning of 2018-19 school year, we have sent 2000 story books to kindergarten classrooms  and 3,375 story books to elementary school classrooms and keep receiving the news about how reading makes a difference in the lives of students...Our rural school teachers write back to us after they receive their shipment of story books and comment on the improvement of their students. As one of the teachers perfectly put it "Books mean new worlds, new dreams, new opportunities...It makes my students to be creative, to be better speakers, to be better readers and helps them express their ideas and feelings much better than before. My students and I are more hopeful about the future as we read a different book each time we come to the class and we know that the next day there will be other books to read in our classroom. As you volunteers suggested, I told my students that whoever reads more books in this semester will receive The Arabian Nights book as a gift. My students got very excited. Before the winter break we gave The Arabian Nights book to our bookworm. She was thrilled:-) Knowing that there are people on the other side of the world who think of us, who value us and who care about our future makes us tremendously happy and hopeful..." This is one of many teachers that we were able to reach in this school year.

Because of donors like you, we manage to reach the schools in the remotest parts of Turkey and continue to give hope and deliver happiness.. Our teachers and students give us hope and make us keep going every time we hear from them. They open their hearts and send us the most meaningful gifts when they send us their letters and happy, hopeful photos..Every time they reach us they make us push the boundaries to reach out to more kids who are less fortunate but deserve a chance like any other kid in another part of the world.. And the dream lives on...Thank you dear donor for making these dreams come true and make us deliver happiness...

Last but not least, thank you Global Giving for giving us this platform to reach many more donors who share the same dream regarding the future generation of Turkey...

Bridge to Turkiye Fund has been a great support for teachers like me who work in rural villages where everything is scarce or does not exist at all...It is important for me to inspire my students by teaching them a new word every day or reading a good book...I wish to see them thrive just like their more fortunate peers. I want them to realize the tranforming power of education.

Some days I just want to see them come to school warm in their coats and boots and carrying their school bags and be happy... These are just basic necessities in a student's life. However, in this part of the country where I work, they are luxury items for my students..When I first came to the school that I work now, I was so disappointed  to see the empty shelves where there should be many books for kids to read and get excited to come to school. I heard from some of my friends who are also teachers that there is this organization called Bridge to Turkiye Fund which helped their students. So I wrote an e-mail to the organization. In a very short time, I was able to fill out a form and send a few photos of my school and students to get help for my school.. They immediately got back to me. In a week, my students received wonderful picture books and educational toys. The following week, my students got new coats and boots. I am so grateful that there are people like Bridge to Turkiye volunteers and donors who make dreams come true...Our shelves are filled with books now and my students get excited to come to school and discover new worlds through their new books...

Above teacher is one of the many teachers that we sent gifts with tthe help of our donors like you..Bridge to Turkiye Fund Circle leaders and volunteers all over The United States are writing to the teachers in Turkey and with the help of our providers in Turkey, school supplies, boots, coats, books, dictionaries, educational toys, science sets are being shipped to the schools in rural areas in a few days... The teachers send us photos and the kids draw pictures, write thank you notes.. We share these photos with our donors. Every photo sends a powerful message in terms of why we need to do more for education and more for kids...

Since the begining of September, we sent 580 coats and 606 boots, 12 sets of books and 10 sets of educational toys, 200 school bags, 150 dictionaries to different schools in Turkey.

We are grateful and thankful for the support you have provided to tranform the lives of students and their teachers through the power of education...

Thank you so much for allowing us to touch the lives of so many students and their teachers...

We wish you Happy holidays and a New year:-)

New sneakers bring joy..
New sneakers bring joy..

Monday September 17, 2018 is the day all the students in Turkey are going to be at their schools..

Let's just hope every student is happy, confident, excited and looking forward to a new semester. In rural and economically disadvantaged areas, it may not always be the case for all of the students. That is why Bridge to Turkiye Fund was established back in 2003 as a volunteer non-profit organization...That is why all the volunteers at BTF are collaborating with each other to reach those kids somewhere in Turkey who are as smart as their fortunate peers but do not have the resources to have their dreams come true...

With your support, we sent 1200 school bags, 10,500 story books to 80 schools, 540 pieces of educational toys to 20 schools, 1307 pairs of sneakers, 1059 coats and 978 boots, 3,189 english-turkish-turkish-english dictionaries to the students  in Turkey in the last semester.

It is our goal that we would continue delivering happiness and hope to the children in Turkey in the new coming school year...

We contacted our providers in Turkey so they could make the educational materials ready to be delivered to the schools in time for the students...

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting the education of children and keeping hope alive...

Love,

Students sending their love and happiness to you..
Students sending their love and happiness to you..

Summer break is starting in Turkey on Friday, June 8th. Thank you  so much for all the support that you have given to our projects in 2017-2018 school year. We feel lucky to have been able to touch the lives of many students and teachers and change their lives for the better...

We would like to share the stories of some of the teachers that you supported with your generous donations through BTF in 2017-18 school year:

"Thank you so much for sending my students these brand new sneakers for our Children's Celebration Day on 23rd of April. I would like to tell you what my students said and asked me: Ogretmenim(my teacher in Turkish), we are all living under the same sky...If we go outside and look up in the sky and smile, would the generous people who send us these gifts be able to see our happiness? I was so surprised and moved by their way of thinking of my students and said yes they would..Let's go outside and smile by looking up in the sky. That is what we did and my students sent innocent smiles and happiness back to you. Thank you so much for your generosity and kind heart...With our gratitude and love..Mustafa Ogretmen."

"Hello Bridge to Turkiye, we have received backpacks, dictionaries and sneakers this week and delivered them to our students in class. It was priceless for me to witness the happiness of my students..It is also a privilege for me to have met you and to witness the happiness of my students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart...I sent you the photos that shows the joy of my students when they opened their gifts...I tried to capture the happiness of one of my students and so wished that you were here with me to share their excitement, happiness and joy..They were asking me if they could bring their backpacks and shoes home to show them to their mothers. I told them about you, the BTF volunteers and the importance of sharing and caring for others...They are too young now to understand...However, I am sure they will remember what I meant in the future and appreciate it and be grateful...Thank you so much again for making us feel privileged and happy...With all my love, Ozlem ogretmen..."

"Dear Bridge to Turkiye Fund, the books and educational toys that you sent to our kindergarten class are well loved and used by our students. They are looking forward to coming to school now and they are not missing school anymore. Once they start playing with the toys and reading the books, it is hard for them to leave the school. Thank you all so much for all the support, encouragement and love that you are sending us...Mehmet Ogretmen"

These are some of our teachers who wrote to us when they received their gifts from you for their students. There are many more teachers and students like them who share their students' happiness by writing back to us after they receive their gifts...Wish we could share them all with you to show you your impact since they are all so inspiring and full of hope and gratitude...You are changing lives and giving hope where it is most needed...

The rural area teachers need a lot more support and school supplies to educate and motivate their students. With your continued support, we are hoping to reach as many teachers and students as we could in 2018-2019 school year...

Have a great summer...
