Summary

This project empowers 60 vulnerable young women in peri-urban Tamale by equipping them with sandals-making skills, entrepreneurship training, and financial literacy. We help women facing unemployment and poverty gain practical tools to earn income and become self-reliant. Through hands-on training and startup support, we solve the problem of limited economic opportunities and create sustainable pathways for these women to build stronger, safer futures for themselves and their families.

Challenge

In peri-urban Tamale, many young women face unemployment, poverty, and limited access to vocational skills, leaving them vulnerable to early marriage and economic exploitation. Most have completed basic schooling but lack opportunities to learn employable trades. This project supports 60 of these women by giving them practical skills to build stable livelihoods and will help address a real, urgent need for economic empowerment and long-term security among vulnerable young women in the community.

Solution

The project will train 60 young women through a three-month program in leather sandals making, basic business skills, and financial literacy. Each beneficiary will receive a starter kit, hands-on mentorship from skilled artisans, and support in digital marketing to promote their products. This project empowers them to generate income, rebuild confidence, and break long-standing cycles of poverty and dependency within their communities.

Long-Term Impact

This project will create long-term change by equipping 60 women in Tamale with skills that generate lifelong income and financial independence. As these women start small businesses, they improve their families' stability, reduce reliance on harmful coping mechanisms, and serve as role models for other girls. Over time, the community benefits from increased economic activity, reduced youth unemployment, and stronger, more resilient households-breaking cycles of poverty for future generation.
