Empower 50 widows in Lagos

The widow empowerment program implemented by Clare Cares Foundation during this period has been a profound journey of resilience, learning, and community collaboration. Designed to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for widows, the project focused on agricultural empowerment as a practical and culturally relevant solution.

Through the support of a friend of the Foundation, Clare Cares was granted access to a small parcel of land dedicated to this initiative. The land was used for plantain cultivation, providing the widows with hands-on agricultural training, shared responsibility, and a sense of ownership over the process.

The women actively participated in land preparation, planting, nurturing, and monitoring the crops over several months. While many of the beneficiaries had limited prior experience with structured farming, the project became a learning curve for both the widows and the Foundation. We navigated challenges such as weather conditions, timing, and coordination, but resilience remained the defining spirit of the program.

It was truly a good and fulfilling day. We spent quality time engaging with the women, encouraging them to put into practice all they had been taught over the past weeks. It was inspiring to see how focused and engrossed they were, proudly showcasing the skills they had gained. Their products were simply wonderful, from the soap to the zobo and tigernuts, each item reflected effort and creativity. We also tasted some of their delicious food. In addition, we held a medical session where tests for malaria, blood pressure, and more were conducted. A makeover session crowned the day beautifully.
