Many schoolgirls in rural parts of the Volta Region face challenges managing their periods safely. They have little or no knowledge about menstrual hygiene and often use unsafe materials like rags or paper, which can cause infections and health problems. Because of the stigma and lack of information, some girls miss school during their periods or drop out completely. This situation limits their confidence, education, and future opportunities.
Menstruation is a natural process, yet for many young girls in rural areas of the Volta region, it remains a source of confusion, stigma, and even health risks. With little to no access to proper menstrual hygiene education, many schoolgirls resort to using unsafe materials like unclean cloth, paper, and rags, leading to infections and long-term health complications. Worse still, the lack of proper awareness makes them vulnerable to exploitation, resulting in teenage pregnancies.
We believe that education is the key to breaking this cycle of ignorance and vulnerability that is why we are launching a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign aimed at educating schoolgirls in rural communities in the Volta Region about the importance of proper menstrual hygiene. By donating to this project we will conduct Monthly Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Sessions and establish Adolescent Reproductive Health Clubs in 10 Schools in the Volta region.
This project will have a transformative long-term impact by breaking the cycle of menstrual stigma and misinformation in rural communities, ensuring that young girls have the knowledge and resources to manage their periods safely and confidently. By providing regular menstrual hygiene awareness sessions, the initiative will significantly reduce health risks associated with poor menstrual practices, preventing infections and long-term complications.
