Reporting Update
Universal Maidens Association Cameroon (UNIMAC) appreciates the opportunity to provide an update on the implementation status of the project “Empower 100 Maidens with Sustainable Snail Farming.” The project was designed to economically empower young women through sustainable snail farming by providing them with practical skills, startup support, and mentorship to promote income generation and food security.
Since the launch of the initiative, the organization has made efforts to initiate key project activities despite experiencing significant financial constraints. Unfortunately, the project has not yet yielded its full expected outcomes due to the lack of sufficient financial resources required for full-scale implementation.
To demonstrate commitment to the project goals, UNIMAC has been self-funding preliminary activities using the limited resources available to the organization. Through these efforts, we have successfully trained 50 women in sustainable snail farming techniques, covering areas such as:
Introduction to snail farming (heliciculture)
Snail housing and environmental management
Feeding and breeding techniques
Farm hygiene and disease prevention
Basic business and income management
These training sessions have helped build foundational knowledge and interest among the participants. However, the project’s next critical phases—such as establishing demonstration farms, providing startup kits, and supporting participants to launch their snail farming enterprises—have been delayed due to the absence of adequate financial support.
The project originally aimed to empower 100 maidens, but progress is currently limited to the capacity-building stage for 50 participants, while the organization continues to seek additional funding and partnerships to complete the remaining activities.
UNIMAC remains fully committed to achieving the intended impact of the project. The organization is actively mobilizing resources, engaging potential partners, and exploring funding opportunities to enable the continuation and completion of the project so that all 100 targeted beneficiaries can benefit as planned.
We remain optimistic that with the necessary financial support, the project will regain momentum and successfully contribute to women’s economic empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and community development.
Conclusion
While financial challenges have slowed implementation, the commitment of UNIMAC and the enthusiasm of the trained participants remain strong. We believe that once adequate funding is secured, the project will continue and achieve its intended outcomes of empowering 100 maidens with sustainable snail farming skills and livelihood opportunities.
