The Mabati Technical Training Institute has continued to provide relevant and diversified skills to many youth in Kilifi County to increase their chances of employment. In the last 5 months,126 new trainees enrolled, increasing the current population to 522 trainees by the end of September 2022. Additionally, 77 trainees undertook Government accreditation offered by the the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) in August and all excelled, passing with flying colours. Over 50% of those who excelled in the NITA examination managed to secure jobs in the last 2 months in the different industrial fields like Garment Making, Welding, Hairdressing, Motor-vehicle Electrical and Plumbing, among others. Some of the companies that employed them include our partner company the Mabati Rolling Mills, Associated Vehicle Assemblies, Coast Apparel, Umoja Rubber and Kilifi Plantation, all within the Coastal region. 20% successfully established their own businesses, having been provided with startup toolkits and are earning decent incomes and creating jobs for fellow youth in Kilifi. A few others have been placed within local companies on internship programs before they are fully absorbed into the labour market.
Our training institute has expanded its programs by introducing new courses in the last 3 months. The new courses include Electrical Engineering, Artisan in Automotive Engineering, Graphic Design, Computer Hardware and Maintenance, Diploma in Computer Networks and System Administration and Vocational Certificate in Information and Cyber Security. These new programs will increase youth employability and meet the current market demands.
We have enhanced our career guidance by setting up a functional career office to sharpen our trainees with work-readiness skills. The services offered by the Career office include training on how to write good curriculum vitae, job interview skills and other soft skills required in the work environment. We hope that the career office will increase opportunities for our graduates and trainees to better fit in the current labour market.
Because of your generous donations, the lunch feeding program for trainees has continued to provide hot lunch to our trainees 5 days a week. The lunch program has benefitted many trainees from vulnerable backgrounds who are not able to afford 3 meals a day in their homes because of the current tough economic times.
Thank you for enabling us enrich the lives of many needy youth in Kilifi. Together we can support more youth to acquire desirable skills to access employment opportunities to earn decent incomes to support their families and communities.
