WILD FIRES IN GREECE LEFT REFUGEE FAMILIES HOPELESS

By Roumpini Terzaki | Project Leader

REFUGEE SAMOS CAMP DAMAGED FROM FIRES
REFUGEE SAMOS CAMP DAMAGED FROM FIRES

Wildfires across Greece, put in danger much of the help Greece was offering to Refugee Families. Please help us support Kids & Families of refugees stacked in Greece,  affected by fire disaster

"Kid and Family" is at the heart of HUG POINTS for Refugees

Due to the huge national disaster  I call out to you for your help. As fires rage across Greece, firstly, I ask for your hands-on support as volunteerand secondly.  I have to remind you that many refugee families are not iscribed to the lists of help that UN (United Nations) has formed, as they try to avoid to stack in Greece jobless, rufless , waiting for their papers for years.

During the national disaster, of the 116 wild fires we faced in Greece, thousands of houses  of locals have been turned into ashes, forcing people to flee their homes and possessions at short notice to save their lives. The Government has to face huge problems already with the pandemic C19 and the Fire Victimes. So even Squats or Hot spots not harmed by the fires, are saffering as volunteering is focused to the fire victimes, doctors and essencials as well.

The fires in Samos island , ruined houses of locals and istallations for hosting Refugee families as well!

In Athens all squats of the north part of the town have been emptied after the evacuation order of the area. Fires left many istallations in ashes!

HOW WE HELPED REFUGEE FAMILIES

Kid & Family offered 2.000 meals in Samos island. The cost of transfer was huge, so we prefered to send our mini van with 3 volunteers (see pictures) who cooked and served the meals, medicines for first aid and clothes on the ground. This way we gave immediate support to Samos island where the damage of the hot spot was huge. Locals helped us a lot to transfer all essencials to the area of the old town of Vathi as they felt released that panic was settled down.

We had to act FAST to help the families! as they are mostly not able to communicate in any other language but their natal one. The panic and the fear were huge. They coudnt realise where to go or who to call for help as all locals were in danger too!

In Athens due to the evacuation of Malakasa -north Attika- more than 2.000 refugees have been transfered to the structure of Ritsona, already full of people!!

We provided 1. masks for C19 donated from the greek company Mega S.A. and 2. meals due to your constant help (please look the attached pictures).

During the pandemic, it’s a frightening situation. Things are extremely difficult

OUR NEEDS: We ugently need essencials to cover the basic needs of Refugee families, as the new reality is difficult for locals, volunteers and the government.

Please help us to give them the basics! Young children are in despair need and often only one mother is responsible for many kids. Refugee women are in despair and fear rases up for new C19  lockdowns as cases have rased up too! during summer.

We have overpassed all capacity we had.

Every little bit helps. Please dont forget to urge friends , so they help too. We really strugle to help a trementous number of new families in need, due to the wild fires we have experienced.

Warmest thanks

Stay safe
