Summary

This project is from the Memorandum adopted in Geneva at the international conference held in 2025 at the UNOG headquarters, which highlighted the shortcomings of current legal instruments governing freshwater resources globally, in light of UN General Assembly Resolution 64/292 of 2010, which introduced an new concept of water humanism. Beyond environmental issues, this initiative addresses a major geopolitical imperative: preventing water-related conflicts and strengthening stability

Challenge

the recognition of right to water by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/292, there is still no universal legal framework specifically dedicated to freshwater for population access and human survival. Existing conventions have several limitations: Already limited to riparian states, these conventions are now outdated in contemporary realities. Our advocacy aims to promote the adoption of a universal UN protocol on freshwater, addressing current gaps in international law. particular: clarify the international legal framework relating to water prevent conflicts by establishing clear methods of management, sharing, and water cooperation consolidate states territorial sovereignty over their water resources integrate and legally frame the innovative concept of water humanism funds will: engage in strategic dialogue
