JISP, in cooperation with a local NGO, International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (IBC), is running a Baby Friendly Space in the temporary container housing site in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras, called "MUSIAD Container Camp", in order to support the mothers with babies aged 0-24 months and pregnant mothers. We are conducting numerous activities, such as parenting counseling, psychosocial support at individuals and group level, awareness sessions, social activities and material support.
On this report, we are pleased to announce that, As of end of November, JISP will be handing over the Baby Friendly Space to IBC, safe in the knowledge that their dedicated team have full capacity to continue the operation of the facility, and even improve services for the beneficiary community according to the their rapidly changing circumstances.
As of today, our Baby Friendly Space has become an important hub for mothers, their babies and young children. Our awareness raising activities for mothers included wide range of topics from general health issues to baby- & child-care and maternal issues, such as Gestational Diabetes, Hypertension in Pregnancy, Importance of Adequate and Balanced Nutrition, Nutritional Disorder, Respiratory Tract Infections, Scabies and Lice, Urinary Tract Infections, Common Gynecological Diseases, Protection and Prevention from Gynecological Cancers, Breast Cancer and Prevention, Importance of Mouth and Dental Health. A number of mothers have told us that this provided confidence in ensuring the health of their children, family and themselves. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support has always been one of the key activities that we place a great importance on, and many voices of appreciation have been heard from the beneficiaries, too!
Although it always feel sad when a project comes to an end, because this means that we’ll have less opportunities to witness those beautiful smiles of our beneficiaries and great moments. However, we also feel content that, through this project, we have been able to provide support to severely affected communities during the most difficult time right after the great earth occured. We are aware that their journey for reconstruction will be long, but at the same time, we have a strong faith in their ability to continue with their life in the best way possible.
Finally, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to our donors who have made it possible for us to implement this project!
