Emergency Appeal Earthquake Victims in Syria

Following the earthquakes in February 2023 that also struck the northern regions of Syria, Jafra teams and volunteers not only responded quickly to meet the most urgent needs of the impacted populations, but also launched multiple campaigns in the months that followed to prevent the displaced populations from encountering new difficulties.

Jafra successfully arranged for 1190 people to get hygiene kits, which included, among other things, women's pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, detergents for the kitchen and clothes, in collaboration with a partner organization. Jafra arranged and funded the kits' four-truck delivery and distribution to families and orphans staying in Lattakié city shelters.

Indeed, after the disaster, families had to vacate their first shelters at the school of the Lattakié Palestinian camp as soon as possible to make room for the students to return to class. In order to allow for the inspection and restoration of their homes, the impacted Palestinians were moved into shelters in Lattakié City.

For women and adolescent girls in particular, the Jafra team arranged individual psychosocial support at eight of the shelters. Given the various obstacles that come with being a woman, women and teenage girls who are displaced have specific needs.

Jafra must express its gratitude to all of the kind donors who helped us assist those in need while once again doing our utmost to provide some relief to the afflicted communities.

In response to the earthquakes that, among other places, affected the Syrian Northern regions on February 2023, and because the Palestinian community there had received little to no support from the international community, Jafra teams and volunteers took immediate action to address the most pressing needs of the affected populations.

Jafra staff sorted donations in food, clothes, blankets, and other supplies that were generously given by the Syrian and Palestinian population living in non-affected areas. In addition, and thanks to the donations in cash, in comprises those received through GlobalGiving, Jafra bought technical emergency kits and was able to target 1120 individuals in total. Jafra financed and organized the transportation of the goods and materials and distributed them to the families and orphans in several devastated areas.

Not only Jafra distributed vital kits and items, but also organized recreational and psychosocial activities for the children and youth who had to brace through the disaster and its aftermath. Games were distributed to the children as well.

Being sheltered in schools since several months, some families still rely on Jafra to help them organize their stay in the shelters. As long as many of the impacted families are unable to return home, Jafra will continue to assist them.  Jafra will also keep planning psychosocial activities for children and caregivers. Your donations are needed to assist those families since they lack the financial means to rent apartments while waiting for their own home to once again be inhabitable.
