Dear Valued Supporters,
Hello, I am Eunbi PARK, Coordinator at PeaceWindsKorea.
Today, I bring you news of our provision of vital mobile medical support to 1,188 Ukrainian women refugees.
It has been two years since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. During this time, PeaceWindsKorea has been providing vital support to those affected by the air raids in Ukraine, including the operation of refugee shelters, medical assistance, and psychological treatment for children and adolescents.
The war has turned life into an unending nightmare for Ukrainian refugees. Please listen to the stories of those who have found hope amidst the darkness.
Since February 2022, the Russian invasion has caused numerous casualties, refugees, and displaced persons, resulting in extensive damage that is difficult to recover from in the short term.
In particular, during the Battle of Chernihiv on February 24, 2022, many women suffered from sexual violence, classified as war crimes, leaving them with deep physical and emotional scars.
PeaceWinds, in collaboration with local partner AFF, has supported mobile medical clinics for women refugees living near Chernihiv Oblast. These clinics include obstetricians, nurses, clinical psychologists, social workers, and health check-up staff.
We have purchased several medical devices, including ultrasound machines, to provide professional support. A mobile hospital vehicle equipped with these medical devices was also prepared, and we began full-scale mobile medical support in February.
The mobile medical clinics offer various women's health services, including gynecological exams, cervical cancer screenings, and pregnancy tests. So far, a total of 1,188 people have visited the clinics. Among them, health issues were discovered in 78 individuals who were then referred to hospitals for further examinations, and a total of 70 have undergone surgery and are currently recovering!
Is it too ordinary to imagine a life where you are guaranteed safety, food, and shelter?
However, due to ongoing conflicts worldwide, there are currently 110 million refugees who have been forced to leave their homes.
At PeaceWindsKorea, we dream of a just world where people can drink clean water when thirsty, visit hospitals for appropriate treatment when sick, and enjoy basic human rights.
Despite the dwindling attention to the war, many Ukrainian refugees still live in suffering. If we continue our efforts together, Ukrainian refugees can find hope in the darkness.
PeaceWindsKorea will continue to expand its response activities.
We sincerely thank our supporters for their ongoing interest and encouragement.
Warm regards,
Eunbi PARK
