Elm Court Center provides meals to the most food insecure of our clients. Many live in residence hotels or apartments without cooking facilities and the meal we provide them is their only fresh food of the day. Elm Court Center also serves as a "living room" for those who are often isolated and alone. They gather for coffee, to read the paper, watch a movie or complete a puzzle. Elm Court Center serves as a refuge from winter storms and a haven in the summer for those who live without air conditioning. Because of the generosity of corporate and invididual donors, as well as foundations and organizatoins such as GlobalGiving, we have never turned away a senior in need. For more than 47 years we have provided a hot meal to ever older adult who requests one.
We depend on donations for more than 60% of our annual funding. We are extremely grateful to organizations like GlobalGiving for choosing to support senior nutrition in our community.
Between Feb. 1 and Apr. 30 of this year, we served and deliverd 22,742 meals to 755 older adults. We recently received this note from one of our homebound clients: Thankyou for the meals. The meals really have helped me out because I do not have much of an appetite. I probably would not have eaten without Meals on Wheels. The delivery people are so kind and caring and the meals are wonderful.
