The past year has shown us the increasing challenges faced by our community’s aging population — and the power of nutritious food and meaningful connection to address them. At Elm Court, we served 120,538 home-delivered meals to 613 individuals, a 15.8% increase from 2023. This dramatic rise in demand reflects growing trends in aging, isolation, and financial hardship, especially among older adults living alone.
With 86.8% of our Elm Court participants living alone and 86.8% reporting an annual income of under $20,000 a year, many of our aging neighbors are struggling to access even the most basic resources. For those without adequate support, Elm Court has become a lifeline. The meals we provide do far more than satisfy hunger — they deliver vital nutrients essential to preventing malnutrition, reducing isolation, and improving overall health.
Malnutrition is a hidden crisis among older adults, exacerbated by financial insecurity and mobility challenges. Without access to proper nutrition, seniors are at increased risk of falls, hospitalizations, and chronic illnesses, further straining limited resources. At Elm Court, we are proud to deliver meals specifically designed to meet the dietary needs of older adults, helping to stabilize their health and reduce preventable health emergencies.
Proper nutrition also plays a key role in reducing isolation by improving physical and emotional well-being. Nutritious meals help older adults maintain their strength and mobility, enabling them to stay connected to their community through social activities and personal relationships. Additionally, a well-balanced diet supports cognitive function, improving memory and communication skills that make meaningful interactions possible. At Elm Court, meal deliveries also serve as a moment of human connection — a friendly visit from a volunteer reminds participants that they are cared for and valued.
Your generosity fuels this life-transforming work. As demand grows, so does the need for sustainable support to ensure that every individual in our program receives not just any food but the nutritious meals and moments of connection they deserve. Proper nutrition has the power to transform lives, reducing isolation and creating stronger, healthier communities.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to this vital mission. Together, we can continue to meet the increasing demand and provide a lifeline of nutritious food and support to those who need it most.
