The aging poputlation in most countries is forgotton. Having monetary ability to receive care is not a option in Honduras. Of the Elderly population 64% do not have a regular income, 42% do not get healthcare on a regular basis and only 7 % have a pension in their old age. we have found an increased number of Elderly with no support system. We are now focusing on a the long term goal of caring for the Elderly and allowing them to live and die in dignity.
These are the concerns regarding elderly care in Honduras. Many elderly or disabled people in Honduras face challenges accessing healthcare, proper nutrition, and adequate housing due to poverty and limited social support systems.
Providing housing and food can improve the quality of life for older people with no resources in several ways, including; Increasing health stability by providing needed resources to live a normal life, improving health, and anxiety over not being able to provide for themselves. Poor nutrition can increase the risk of pressure injuries, loss of bone and muscle mass, and other health issues.
High-quality, affordable housing can lead to better health outcomes for older adults. For example, permanent supportive housing programs can reduce the number of chronically homeless people and the costs associated with medical care. Reducing proverty and providing healthcare needs, including housing can improve an elderly persons' independence, health, and dignity.
