El Nino Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Initiative

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing water and sanitation support for those affected by severe weather flactuations here in our area. Water is life and there are many communities needing water here especially mountainsides. Community residents gather water by walking several hours in steep slopes and this is very problematic especially for children and women who are often tasked to do the chore. This reporting period, what we did is to conduct a survey in 3 communities in Misamis Oriental province in order to ascertain the exact need for water and sanitation in their communities. We found out that in the communities we visited there is indeed a severe lack of water and with it sanitation because it is difficult for them to implement sanitation without a proper toilet.

Dear Friend,

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous donation to our project providing water, sanitation and hygiene to very poor farming communities affected by the El Nino. One of the problems encountered by local communities here is that there are available water sources but these are far from their homes. In this instance, our approach is to construct water reservoirs in order to collect water from a higher source and then provide polyethylene pipes so that the water can be fed via gravity near the communities needing the water. This reporting period and with the assistance of local supporters we were able to provide water to 13 households living in water-deficient community in Misamis.
