Arca believes that education is the path to a better future. 18 years ago, Aldair and Ana Beatriz, 2 children from Favela Vila Prudente, Sao Paulo, joined Arca socio-educational center. During 8 years, they benefited from meals, activities as well as psychological support. Nowadays, they are educated grown-ups building a career. Arca wants to fund free, quality courses for children and youths, giving access to training and education, sports and digital litteracy, to break the cycle of poverty.
Arca is based in the Vila Prudente district on the east side of Sao Paulo, directly engaging with around 1,500 people in the community out of the 8,000 residents living in the Vila Prudente slum. The organization tackles challenges such as extreme poverty, limited formal job opportunities, and unequal access to education, public facilities and leisure spaces.
Arca respond to the demand from children and young adults of the favela to be offered a safe and healthy educational environment. Children benefit from balanced meals and daily activities, youth access computers, receive the relevant trainings and mentoring support to be prepared for job applications. Arca strives to create opportunities for children and teenagers to explore the city and embrace their identities within it.
Since 2001, Arca contributes to building a better future for children and youths growing in Vila Prudente's favela. Educational and vocational programs led by Arca reinforce the community's cohesion and allow its children to unlock their potential through artistic, sportive and linguistic activities. Professional training, mentoring, psychological and entrepreneurship support give young adults the tools to access the labour market with increased self-esteem and a sense of their own value.
