This project empowers rural youth in Colombia's Caribbean through education and entrepreneurship. It supports 327 primary and 135 secondary students, promoting skills in English, STEAM, eco-tourism, and business. Activities include school clubs, teacher training, and psychosocial support for students and families. By fostering academic, vocational, and emotional growth, the project aims to combat poverty, improve livelihoods, and build a sustainable future for vulnerable communities.
Rural youth in Colombia's Caribbean face limited access to quality education, high dropout rates, and lack of vocational skills, worsened by poverty and poor internet connectivity. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified these challenges, leaving many students without learning opportunities. Unemployment and marginalization further hinder young people, especially indigenous and migrant communities, from benefiting from regional growth, including eco-tourism.
.The project will enhance education for rural youth by introducing active methodologies, school clubs in English, eco-tourism, and entrepreneurship, and environmental projects like school gardens. Teachers will receive training, and students will gain vocational skills, psychosocial support, and access to field trips. These initiatives will improve academic performance, foster employability, and empower communities to benefit from local eco-tourism opportunities, breaking poverty cycles.
We will support 30 teachers in local schools with training and support to help them implement new methodologies and STEAM subjects, as well as increasing their English skills. There will be a strong focus on English learning, with the piloting of lessons through a virtual learning platform called "Immerse Me", and we'll explore the possibility of having online speaking sessions with volunteers from CCC.
