Chen is an 8 year old boy and a star student who is often praised by his teachers and classmates. However, his family situation is difficult. His parents are divorced migrant workers, so Chen lives with his 60-year-old grandfather in Zhongshan Village. He takes care of his grandfather and his four siblings, but he is struggling, as their financial obstacles have only been exacerbated by the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, he is unable to focus on his education, making higher educational attainment difficult despite his hard work and dedication.

Millions of children in rural China are trapped within a cycle of poverty that consists of inadequate education and unsupported childhoods. The Education For All Foundation’s operations create hope for our students by giving them previously unavailable tools to succeed in life. By helping our students with acquiring English literacy, gaining emotional maturity, and learning soft skills such as problem-solving, we at EFA strive towards our vision to provide equal opportunities in life to all those who need it.

So what can $2 USD buy?

For China's 'left-behind-children' like Chen, $2 USD is enough to fund one day of school. Just one day of education can provide a lifetime of opportunities to break free from the poverty cycle, and your donations have funded over 10,000+ days of education for our students.

The Education For All Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our establishment in 2018, we have accompanied impoverished children, families, and communities in China, providing financial assistance and various teaching resources. Currently, the Education For All Foundation teaches weekly English lessons to 1500+ children from 14 schools in rural China, and our trained volunteers also provide emotional mentorship and guidance to at-risk students.

The unprecedented circumstances of the past two years have been difficult, especially for our underprivileged students in rural China. They and their families have struggled more than ever with a multitude of financial obstacles, but your generosity has been a huge source of support and comfort. It is people like you that make it possible for them to receive not only basic living necessities, but also an empowering educational experience! Thank you for joining us in empowering the left-behind, one child at a time!

The unprecedented circumstances of the past year have been difficult, especially for our underprivileged students in rural China. They and their families have struggled more than ever with a multitude of financial obstacles, but your generosity has been a huge source of support and comfort. It is people like you that make it possible for them to receive not only basic living necessities, but also an empowering educational experience. Below is the story of one student out of many more whose living and education quality have been significantly improved thanks to your donations.

Ye, a first grader at Yanglin Primary School, is a 7-year-old girl and lives in Wu's family in Pengzhai Village.

Ye lives with her father and grandma. Her grandfather died of thrombosis, and her father suffers from a disease called venous thrombosis. The three operations her father had over the past ten tens cost more than 200,000 yuan. His father does not go to work since he can not stand for a long time, and he has to take medicine every day to maintain his health. Besides Ye’s grandma tilling the land for a living, her family also borrowed ten thousand yuan to operate a lottery shop. Grandma works at home. Ye’s mother left the family after she gave birth and has never returned home.

Although she is young, Ye is a very polite and hardworking student. She was recommended by the Yanglin Primary School as a student to participate in EFA’s EDGE Mentorship Operation.

Partner School Financial Support

Despite federal government efforts, local governments in many parts of rural China misuse funds, which results in a lack of funding for education. EFA ensures that our partner schools have the necessary resources in order to not only facilitate EFA’s English classes, but also to run other standard school classes. Thus, EFA donates technology, books, stationery, and much more so that our schools are supported.

Albeit online, Chinese New Years for our students was incredible. From engaging history-themed lessons to feudal robes and hair styles, our teachers wished the students good health and safety as we persevere through this unprecedented period together. The Year of the Ox brings prosperity and wellness to all; so from our students and volunteers, we wish you a happy Chinese New Year.

In additon to this celebration, today marks a special day for our organization as exactly one year ago, we made contact with Leroy, a local teacher in one of our rural village schools. Characterized by dilapidated housing and chronic poverty, the learning environment of this village school paralleled our other schools: Leroy lacked the funds and technology to deliver her lessons effectively, but it was the students’ exceptionality that caught our eye. Underdressed, unfocused, and unruly, the students came to class in despair. Of the 35 total students on the roster, a meager 5 attended class regularly; other times, the class was barren and neglected. However, what we saw was the potential to captivate Leroy’s class with EFA student-teachers’ overwhelming passion and excitement for providing educational opportunities—a chance to change their perspective of the classroom and the topic of education.

Fast forward to present day operations, Leroy’s class has grown to double its previous size. Students from neighboring villages flock to her classroom to be taught by us, Education for All; Not only have these students shown more passion in the classroom, but they have also developed a greater sense of community with those around them.

The funds you have kindly contributed to our organization have gone towards students like those in Leroy’s class. We have recently allocated over $1000 USD worth of scholarships to our Emotional Development Guarantees Excellence (EDGE) Mentorship program. This program assists left-behind children develop healthy mental habits by providing an older-sibling-like figure in the form of one of our trained volunteers. Specifically, these scholarships will be used towards our students’ tuition and tools that facilitate their learning experiences.

As for this year’s goals, we are currently in the process of expanding our Education/Teaching and EDGE programs to other schools beyond China to truly bring education for all. Thank you for your unwavering support and stay tuned for more of our amazing accomplishments.
