Education for Rural Community Children

Thank you for your understanding of the modification of this project. We have great news to share with you! You have improved learning for LEA Primary School Pupils by donating writing materials as well as Covid-19 prevention kits.

The pupils often lacked writing materials because their parents could not afford them. This was a big challenge to the teachers who could not give assignments nor track academic progress. Items donated included dozens of books, pencils, biros and erasers for each pupil. Alheri, one of the beneficiaries was happy to receive her books because she loved writing. The school management and staff were not left out as they received packs of board markers and biros.

JHF also held a sensitization meeting on Covid-19 for the pupils. Due to the remote location of the school, there was a gap in knowledge about the disease. None of the pupils understood what it was and how it could be prevented but a JHF health expert team member was able to educate the pupils on its meaning and prevention methods. We also went further to donate hygiene kits like soap, handwashing buckets, handwashing stands and precaution stickers to the school.

The pupils, school management, parents and community members who were in attendance were overjoyed. The parents testified that this project will ease the burden of purchasing writing materials on them. Mrs. Mercy, a parent said that she looked forward to having us do more for the pupils. The staff was also motivated to teach better as JHF’s visit made them realize that they were not forgotten. More importantly, they believed that the provision of writing materials will improve the writing ability of the pupils.

Dear Donor,

Since our last report in August, our working context remained unstable. In fact, the situation got worse last month due to the nationwide protests that took place.

Education was disrupted again as most states shut down schools. This coupled with the effects the pandemic still has on the economy has severely affected our plans, campaigns and donations.

However, we are working to generate resources for greater impact as things normalize. We have begun a social media campaign for GivingTuesday, an online fundraising event which will take place on December 1st. We are focused on building our online presence to ensure that we get the word out about our ongoing project. Rural community children must get quality education and GivingTuesday presents each one of us the opportunity to raise more funds  to ensure that happpens in 2021.

We are so inspired by their desire to learn upon the latest resumption of schools in the midst of the poor conditions. As reported by our team member on the field, ‘the children arrive at school early, including those without shoes’. According to one of the pupils, 'I feel so happy to be back to school. I just want to continue learning'.

Knowing that recent happenings will not deter rural community children from learning is great news. We kindly implore that it serves as source of  encouragement  and increase your passion to give less privileged children a chance at a better life. These challenging times gives us the opportunity to cause remarkable changes.
