International Day of the Girl Summit (2014)
Today only, Microsoft YouthSpark is partnering with our project! All eligible donations will be matched up to $1,000 per donor per organization during this campaign as we gear up for International Day of the Girl!
In 2011, the UN declared October 11 to be the International Day of the Girl, focusing on supporting girls around the world living in violence, oppression and poverty. The UN is calling for governments and non-governmental organizations alike to move beyond awareness-raising by providing the support necessary to truly empower the girl child and end all forms of violence.
Freely in Hope has been doing just that—in providing holistic educational opportunities for high school and university students, we have been able to prevent sexual abuse and re-abuse, to provide counseling and health care for students who have undergone sexual violence, and to empower once vulnerable young women into dynamic leaders who are impacting their communities with their stories of transformation.
In celebration of the International Day of the Girl, Freely in Hope is hosting its second International Day of the Girl Summit for students, survivors, and practitioners on October 17 in Nairobi. This IDG Summit will focus on healing the wounds of trauma for people with emotional or psychological injuries caused by war, domestic violence, sexual abuse and other traumatic events.
Check out highlights from last year's International Day of the Girl Summit!!
The IDG Summit will be led by Freely in Hope scholars who will use their own stories to facilitate a safe space for survivors and practitioners to heal and learn together.
Just $50 will sponsor one student to attend our IDG Summit—be a part of International Day of the Girl by providing hope and healing for a student in Nairobi!
