Prevent Sexual Abuse by Educating Girls

1) This year, 2 of our high school scholars will graduate—this includes Linet, an aspiring health care worker (pictured)! The last term of high school is always a stressful time as they test for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education! After receiving their certificate, they will be able to apply for universities!

2) Next year, we will be bringing in 5 new scholars into Freely in Hope! Freely in Hope equips survivors of sexual violence through holistic education, leadership development and storytelling platforms. We are excited to welcome these 5 new scholars to provide access for them to achieve their academic dreams.

 Kibera, the biggest slum in Eastern Africa, is home to some of our scholars. Sexual violence is a pandemic that has been normalized in these places—women and girls are raped, trafficked and forced into prostitution.Though Kibera is known to be a community full of abuse and endless violence, this same community has given birth to giants. Survivors are the leaders and advocates who are continuing to bring transformation to the world by spreading hope far and wide—in Kibera and beyond.

We believe that change in Kibera begins with the leadership of students of Kibera—young men and women working together toward a violence-free Kenya. 

In response to the rampant sexual violence within Kenya, Freely in Hope is developeing a student-led program to teach young men and young women to prevent sexual violence in their communities. Starting with high schools in Kibera, the program will walk with survivors in their journey of healing to restore and transform their communities toward freedom. 

Join us in advocating with students from Kibera—donating $50 will fund 1 session that trains 50 young leaders in Kibera. Our target is 6 training sessions in 2 high schools—training 100 students on sexual violence prevention in 2017!
