Allow us to introduce the newest member of the scholarship programme – 9 year old Sonia! Like so many of the kids in our programme, Sonia’s life hasn’t been easy since the January 2010 earthquake. Her mother was killed in the earthquake, and their family lost everything they had.
Since then, Sonia’s dad, who himself only has a primary school education, has been able to pay for her classes only sporadically. He was about to pull her out of school for the rest of the school year when our Haitian staff intervened. Thanks to you, Sonia can stay in school and get a better start than her dad did!
While we’re delighted to welcome Sonia, we’re sorry to say that she is taking the place of another one of our students, Lovlie. Lovlie has had to leave Port au Prince for the remainder of the school year due to a family emergency. We look forward to welcoming Lovlie back next year when she’ll attend class with Sonia!
You’ve made Sonia’s shot at education possible – and with it she gets a real chance to build a brighter tomorrow.
Thanks so much for all you’ve given, and our warmest regards!
