School is now out for the summer and we have great news – all of the kids in the programme passed their exams! That means that each and every one of them will advance to their next grade in September.
Passing their exams this year is a huge accomplishments for the kids you support. At mid-year many of the children were struggling. 15 year old Betrad was one of the kids we were most worried about. After the earthquake he missed two years of school. His home had been destroyed, and he and his brother couldn’t find a place to stay. They were evicted from several tent camps before their aunt was finally able to find a house and take the boys in.
The two years of instability left a mark on Betrad. He reentered school three grade levels behind other kids his age and had trouble focusing. School was a real struggle.
Our teachers identified Betrad as needing extra help early and, because of your generosity, we were able to give it to him. With extra tutoring after school, Betrad started to get his confidence back and catch up. Last week, he passed his exams with flying colors!
Betrad isn’t the only child who needed extra help this year. Your donations made that support possible - thanks so much for all you’ve given!
Next year, all of our students besides 18-year-old Yolene will return to school. The only reason Yolene isn’t returning is because she’s graduating from the Haitian equivalent of high school. We’ll enroll another child living in poverty to take Yolene’s seat.
We can’t wait to see how our students do in September when school restarts. In the meantime, we wish them a very happy summer vacation and extend our warmest thanks to you one more time. After all, without you, they wouldn’t have been in school!
Very Kind Regards,
