Childhood in pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic continues worldwide causing serious health and social problems, in Mexico and in particular in San Cristóbal de las Casas, the need for work and economic reactivation is urgent, for which women, men and children have reworked to shops and public spaces.

Given the social reality that we live, at Melel Xojobal, we have taught child laborers in the markets in the preparation of face masks, antibacterial gel and care against possible infections during their working hours.

Similarly, we have reactivated our weekly work in public spaces, emphasizing improving nutrition and health care from home.

The school year in Mexico will be carried out "remotely", either by internet, television and radio, until the government authorities determine that we are not in a security situation, however, despite being a precautionary measure. In the face of COVID-19, the educational gap that was already high will become even wider, since many children do not have access even to television to study. Our action for the last period of the year is to provide educational support to be able to solve school doubts and contribute to the promotion of school permanence.
