Sorie is thankful for your support
Sorie is thankful for your support

Dear project supporters,

Since the last project report, we have together raised $146.81. YOUR support helped Sorie further his education - giving him a new start and opportunity in life.

Sorie lives in a small village called Kamawoni. He wanted to continue his education by going to a teacher's college. He tells us a little about himself and expresses his gratitude below.

"My name is Sorie. I live at Kamawoni village. Kamakwe town.  I am a school teacher, teaching at the Kamawoni village school.  I am an orphan. My mother and father died when I was at a tender age.  I come from an extended family with four siblings that look up to me for support.  I shall be going to the Teachers college this academic year.  Thank you for your support."  Read more in his letter - in his own writing...

Thanks for being a part of helping Sorie, a deserving future leader!  Together we are building a new breed of quality leaders. We deeply appreciate your on-going support!

With gratitude
The Develop Africa Team

Daniel Valentine thankful for the support

Dear Project Supporters,

Thank you for your ongoing support to the Future Leaders in Freetown.  You are truly making an impact on the lives of the children by giving them the education they need to be the future leaders.

One of the students in Freetown, Daniel Valentine, sent a thank you video expressing his appreciation for the support he has received.  Your donations helped to cover his tuition, uniforms, books and school supplies. We are so thankful that we are together supporting his passion for educating and improving himself.

In the video, Daniel Valentine says "I love going to school. Thank you for your support! "

Thank you again for your gift of education to the future leaders in Freetown!  We are confident that the future of Sierra Leone is so much brighter as we together help to raise the future leaders.

With much appreciation,
The Develop Africa Team

Dear Project Supporters,

Your donations are making a positive impact on the next generation of leaders in Freetown. Thanks to your support we have been able to send and distribute books and school supplies to the United Methodist Church Primary School at George Brook, Freetown.

Please watch the video of the United Methodist Church Primary School students singing their school song and excitedly accepting the books.

An article in the Huffington Post caught our attention that we would like to share:

"Unless we change course, nearly half the world’s children born this year will end their school years without the basic skills needed for the global labor market in 2030. And come the middle of the century, one African child in three will leave school without completing their basic secondary education. By then, Korea, Japan and Taiwan will deliver higher educational opportunity for 80 percent or more of their school leavers while the Central African Republic, Congo and Niger will, at best, struggle to reach five per cent."

Together we believe we can change these statistics.  This mission is possible.  We are changing lives and destinies, one child at a time.

We appreciate your continued support as we educate the future leaders of Freetown.  Help us change the predictions that only 5% of African children will have the opportunity to attend school.  Help us make sure no child is left behind.  Thank you!

With great appreciation,
The Develop Africa Team

Suad - improved grades at school
Suad - improved grades at school

Dear project partners,

Many kids in Sierra Leone are the first kids in their family history / generation to go to school.  These kids do not receive any educational support (with homework, educational counselling etc.) from their parents.

The UNDP summary of Sierra Leone states that ... "illiteracy remains a persistent challenge and youth that lack that skills and education find it extremely difficult to compete for the limited jobs available".  The article estimates the adult illiteracy rate at 41%.

On one hand, this is simply disheartening.  On the other hand, this presents to us an exciting opportunity to be able to bring meaningful change, one life at a time.  This excites us tremendously.

In July, I had the opportunity to visit Sierra Leone and evaluate the economy, needs, mentality and our impact.  I found out that Sierra Leoneans are happy that the Ebola epidemic is behind them. In conversations with close to 100 people, I observed passion, the will to progress and a burning desire to enhance and improve themselves. Amongst other things, they specifically asked for support with microfinance and school fees.

Covering school expenses is crucial as it removes the primary reason why kids drop out of school.  This is one of the best ways we can help Sierra Leone recover.

Education continues to be one of the governmental priorities.  We are excited that we can together be part of boosting education and helping Sierra Leone recover.

Thanks to YOUR support, we also continue to offer coaching lessons at the After School Lesson Program.  This meets a vital need particularly for kids who are the first in her family to go to school.

Suad (pictured) is one of the girls who attends regularly.  She is now almost 8 years old.  She is a pupil in the Vickrays Community Primary School and she is in class three. As a result of the lessons, Suad's performance in school has greatly improved. She has been attending this lesson for about seven months.  When asked what she learns from the most, she said she really benefits from the Social Studies lesson.

Our support is making a visible difference - helping kids to stay in school and enhancing their academic progress while in school.

The new academic year starts this month.  We have over 50 kids on our waiting list.

Please join us today in ensuring one more kid stays in school by donating $100.  Thanks for your support!

With very warm regards

Sylvester and the Develop Africa team

Dear project partners

Thanks to your ongoing generosity students at an additional school are now using new books and supplies. These supplies are strengthening the educational foundation of kids at the UMC Calaba Town Nursery / Primary School. There are 160 pupils in the school, aged 3 - 16.

The kids and teachers were delighted to receive the supplies.  Joyce Kosseh, the Head Teacher, sent a letter expressing her appreciation - available here.  We are so excited about the opportunity that we have to help build a stronger generation of leaders in Sierra Leone.

Schools are still in session in Sierra Leone and will close in July.  The children are looking forward to their break.

A new batch of school supplies and books was recently shipped and will arrive as the summer closes and the children get ready to start the new school year.

Your continued generosity and support is what enables us to continue to help educate these future leaders of Sierra Leone.

Thank YOU for making a difference!

Warmest Regards,
The Develop Africa Team
