Summary

An estimated 1 in 6 children - or 356 million globally - live in extreme poverty and 2/3 of those children live in sub-Saharan Africa (UNICEF). We are addressing this need by building new classrooms, providing scholarships, books, uniforms, school meals, school and teaching supplies, solar lights, and computer training. This helps children / youths complete their education and become future leaders in Sierra Leone.

Challenge

42% of African school children will drop out before the end of primary education (UN statistics). Many schools lack the fundamental resources essential for quality education. In areas like Kamawornie, Sierra Leone even the children that can go to school are in crowded classrooms making it challenging to learn. There is an urgent need to address this by providing empowering and quality education in concert with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Solution

This project will aid in creating well-equipped classrooms to correct overcrowding. It will also provide scholarships, school supplies, books, teaching supplies, computer training, school meals, etc. This helps to reduce illiteracy and school dropout rates. Education is a proven way to alleviate poverty and bring lasting change. Providing quality education reflects the fact that every child is entitled to fundamental human rights. Beneficiaries are educated and their lives are transformed.

Long-Term Impact

The project is an effective long-term investment as it provides quality educational opportunities for children and youths. This is helping them to rise above poverty, become independent and better decision-makers. They are then better capable of making a significant contribution to their families, communities, nation, and the world at large. Education reduces poverty. It brings lasting empowerment and definite change.
