Dear Project Supporters,

According to UNICEF, 1 in 6 children live in Extreme Poverty and of that number, two-thirds live in sub-Saharan Africa.  Unfortunately, those statistics are expected to get worse due to the pandemic.  However, your generous ongoing donations are supporting children in Sierra Leone and helping make getting an education possible with school support, books and school supplies, bed nets, solar lights, and more.

The students in Sierra Leone truly appreciate your support.  If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a recurring donation yet, we warmly welcome your ongoing support to provide more children with the educational resources they need to be the Future Leaders of Sierra Leone.

Please share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

Warm regards,

Amy and the Develop Africa team

P.S.  From  December 14-18, @GlobalGiving will match your generosity by 200% when you sign up for a new monthly donation. Tell your family and friends: together, we have the power to #MakeaDifference

Education in Sierra Leone has its challenges. Unfortunately, gaining a proper education is most challenging for impoverished or underprivileged families in Sierra Leone. The quality of education that children receive is affected to a very large degree by the supporting environment. This environment includes access to essential learning materials like books and school supplies. A supportive environment also includes access to technology. Technology is important in education because we live in a technology-driven and technology-aided world. Computers are an essential part of the information age. And, technical competence is necessary to be competitive in today's job market.

Fortunately, Develop Africa has nurtured a great relationship with a donor who refurbishes computers, tablets, and laptops. This donor is able to provide Develop Africa recurring donations of the refurbished computers, tablets, and laptops so that we can send them to Sierra Leone to be used in schools there to help children and youth learn how to use them.

We're excited to get our newest shipment of tablets and laptops. After an initial check to make sure everything is in working order, they'll be ready to be shipped to Sierra Leone. There, our team will receive them and distribute them appropriately. As computers are in high demand, every chance to offer the opportunity of technology is a gift.

Once in the hands of students, the world of computer technology will open up for them. And, having the world's information available to you is very powerful. This will mean that benefiting students will be more eligible for jobs that require computer experience. The rippling effect will reduce their chances of poverty or undesirable life paths.

We're thrilled about the opportunity to offer computers to students in Sierra Leone. And, we celebrate this and every donation of computers.

Dear Project Supporters,

Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated as it continues to make an impact on the future leaders in Sierra Leone.  Joseph is one of the students that recently received school fees and school supplies and he sent this video of appreciation saying-

Hi, I am Joseph and I am starting JSS3 this year. I am looking forward to learning more in school.

I am truly grateful to receive this support from you. Thank you very much!

Joseph truly appreciates your support as do the other students in Sierra Leone.  If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a recurring donation yet, we warmly welcome your ongoing support to provide more children with the educational resources they need to be the Future Leaders of Sierra Leone.

Donated calculators
Donated calculators

Dear patrons,

As you know, the calculator is a portable electronic device used to perform calculations, ranging from basic arithmetic to complex mathematics.

The first solid-state electronic calculator was created in the early 1960s. Since then, the electronic calculator has evolved from a machine that could only perform simple four-function operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) into one that can now also execute highly technical algebraic symbolic manipulations instantly and accurately.

Calculators allow students access to mathematical concepts and experiences from which they were previously limited.

Because calculators make possible mathematical exploration, experimentation, and enhancement of learning mathematical concepts, we provide this tool to students in Africa.

For example, Elizabeth in this video expresses her gratitude for the calculator she received earlier this year.

She explains that her calculator is helping to solve mathematical problems and improving her academic performance. She briefly demonstrates how this is helping her.

Our calculators are helping to make the dream of education come true!  Together we are making a difference

In October 2020, we received a generous gift of 26 used Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Scientific Graphing Calculators.

Very soon - students like Elizabeth will be using the 26 calculators.

Your donations helped to purchase the 4 AAA batteries needed for each calculator (total of 104 Energizer Max batteries).  Because of your support these calculators will soon be in use - in the hands of deserving students.

We thank you for everything you have done for our students. We look forward to your continuous support.

We look forward to your on-going engagement. If you have any questions, please feel free to email globalgiving@developafrica.org.

Thanks & best wishes,

Dear Project Supporters,

Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated as it continues to make an impact on the future leaders in Sierra Leone.  School supplies and financial support was provided to students in Bo, which is located in the southern part of Sierra Leone. Access to water and electricity is a challenge to residents in Bo. The major occupation for residents is mostly farming and trading. The students and parents were very thankful for the support they received.

The students expressed their thanks saying-

Thank you very much for this support. We love you all!

A mother of a student also expressed her thanks saying-

Thank you, may God provide for them.  May God make life better for everybody.  Develop Africa's program is helping students here. May they study and get a good education.

It is thanks to YOU, that school supplies and support were distributed to students in Bo.

Our recurring donors are truly making a lasting difference.  If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a recurring donation yet, we warmly welcome your ongoing support as we continue to provide children in Sierra Leone with the educational resources they need to be the future leaders of Sierra Leone.

Please share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

Warm regards,
