Educate Girls in Tanzania

Africa has one of the lowest primary school enrollment rates in the world, with 33 million children, including 18 million girls, out of school. In Tanzania, nearly half (47%) of girls of primary school age are not enrolled. Although the pregnancy rate among Tanzanian girls aged 15–19 declined by about 12% between 2004 and 2010, more than 40% of young women still become mothers by age 18, contributing to one of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates globally (UNICEF). Additionally, girls in urban areas of Tanzania are significantly more likely to complete secondary school compared to their rural counterparts—approximately eight times more likely.

AID Tanzania currently supports about 10 girls in the rural Arusha community by providing funds for tuition, uniforms, shoes, and books. Donations through GlobalGiving have also helped supply additional books and materials for five primary school girls.
