Art Studio's sponsorship partner Wades's World Foundation continued support of our Little Haiti youth by inviting us to Mr. Dwyane Wade's holiday gift giving "3 Under The Tree" event at Santa's Enchanted Forest on Dec 22nd, 2011. Thirty Art Studio youth ages 7-18 yrs enjoyed a day of pizza, gifts, meeting Mr. Wade, amusement park rides and fun! The highlight of the evening was when Mr. Wade presented Art Studio a sponsorship check for $10,000 continuing his support of our Art Studio Creative-Holistic programs into 2012.

Dear Friend of Art Studio,

As we near the end of the school year and begin to prepare for summer programs, our Art Studio would like to take a moment to update you on how your support continues to educate, empower and heal at-risk youth in the Little Haiti community of Miami, FL.

Art Studio's in-school and community location programs have continued to empower youth in need with creative thinking and career preparedness skills; introducing healthy means of self-expression, promoting self-confidence, and guiding youth on a path towards academic, personal, and career success.

Our students at Miami Edison High Art Club recently had the opportunity to attend a national film festival and conference in Washington, D.C. to celebrate their success as finalists in the 'If I Had a Trillion Dollars' film contest and learn more about Media, Leadership and Advocacy. Read more about the project here

For our friends living in or visiting the Miami area, you are invited to join Art Studio and our partners, L-M-N-T Gallery and Vision Launch.org, on Thursday, May 17th from 7pm - 9pm at L-M-N-T gallery (55 NW 36th St. Miami, FL 33127) for an inspirational event exploring the power of transforming a vision into reality.

In addition to live performances, visual art and a panel of visioneers, the even will highlight the results of a student workshop exploring the personal visions of Little Haiti youth. A portion of the nights proceeds will benefit Art Studio to continue empowering youth to pursue their dreams.

Thank You for your continued support of Hope in Action! Stay tuned for our upcoming end-of-year newsletter with detailed updates and photos from the field, and visit our Facebook Page and Website for more.

With Gratitude,

Our Art Studio Team

Thanks to your generous contributions, Art Studio has educated, and empowered and healed at-risk youth in THREE local schools in addition to it's community location in the Little Haiti area of Miami, Florida. Through creative-holistic art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, theater, film, movement, mindful breathing, journaling, and more, our youth have learned about themselves, the environment, their community and each other.

Some highlights from the programs that YOU helped fund include:

Everything is Energy at Jesse J. McCrary Elementary School
led by Teaching Artist Ashley Cumberland
Fun Fact: This spring, students in this program performed a play about overcoming adversity, featuring characters, costumes, and scenery they created after studying elements of the periodic table. Science + art = fun! Art integration at it's best!
Film/Theater at Morningside Elementary School
led by Teaching Artist Anna Blash
FUN FACT: Zombies and dream machines gone wrong may sound like a plot for a horror movie, yet this film created by Morningside students demonstrates the power of friendship and community to turn even the scariest scenarios into a positive solution.

My Mother Planet Cartoon Creation at Miami Edison Middle School
led by Teaching Artist Estevan Acosta
and Miami Edison Middle School art teacher Ms. Hollifield
After a field trip to the Design District's 2nd Saturday, students were excited to create their own artwork for a professional gallery show. Their hard work paid off as their artwork was displayed at the Bakehouse Art Complex during the Art is Life event on June 10th

Artoconecto KidsART at Art Studio's Community Location
led by Teaching Artist Leda Almar
Fun Fact: In addition to creating beautiful prints and t-shirts, select students from this program were awarded scholarships to participate in Artoconecto's summer camp
