You helped Nicholas overcome many obstacles in his life. Nicholas was born in a poor family and lost his mother and father at a young age. After both of his parents died, Nicholas went to live with a relative that treated him very poorly making Nicholas want to end his life. Luckily, Nicholas’ aunt stepped in to take care of him and enrolled him in Nyaka Primary School. After starting at Nyaka, Nicholas’ grades suffered because of the trauma he suffered before living with his aunt. Nicholas’ home life with his aunt soon turned sour. He felt hopeless and like that world was against him. BUT because of you, Nicholas kept hope that things would get better.
Things did get better! The teachers in your amazing schools came alongside Nicholas. They mentored and tutored him so he could do his best. Nicholas’ grades got better and he went on to pursue his dream of being a nurse. He started nursing school in 2016 and finished in two years. Nicholas wanted to be a nurse because his parents died from a lack of access to healthcare. He grew up seeing sick people in his community suffer and he wanted to take care of them.
Nicholas gives you credit for his success. Saying, “Being educated by Nyaka has changed my life. I no longer feel rejected and I am out of danger. If I had not got the Nyaka Scholarship, I guess I wouldn’t be in this world. I am now the happiest man, full of joy and proud of being a medical worker.”
You changed Nicholas’ life. Thank you!

Starting a new school is a big change, but it’s even more shocking if you never thought you’d still be in school at 15.
Before joining Nyaka, Kirabo’s family couldn’t afford to feed their children, let alone send them to school. Even if they had the money, Kirabo was afraid that her family would send her brothers to school before her. In rural Uganda, paying for a son’s school fees is a more important investment than a daughter’s education. Before she turned five, Kirabo had given up on her dream to attend school. She thought she was destined to be a young wife and a young mother.
However, because you give Kirabo free education at Nyaka, her dreams have changed. You’ve given her the tools to reach her dream of becoming a lawyer. She is so excited to work towards her education goals this year!
Click the link below to watch a video about how your kindness allows Kirabo, as well as two other female students, to unlock their true potential. By enabling these girls to start their school year off with the tools and support need to succeed academically, you are helping them become Uganda’s future leaders.
Your gifts not only empower Kirabo, but can continue to impact the many girls yearning for an education in rural Southwest Uganda!

Across Africa, 28 million girls won’t finish school. Since 95% of jobs by 2020 will require a formal STEAM* education, girls are often kept from the workforce. With your support, Nyaka is determined to stop our female students from becoming a statistic.
Kashemire, a third year Vocational student, always loved science. Yet, until she discovered Nyaka’s Robotics Club, she wasn’t able to apply her scientific knowledge outside the classroom.
However, your gifts allowed Kashemire to turn her scientific interests into job-friendly skills! After joining the club, she learned skills such as electrical wiring and computer programing.
Because of your compassion, Kashemire can combine her critical thinking abilities with her technical skills to help her community! Kashemire recognized that the understaffed, overcrowded local hospitals couldn’t care for all patients. To combat preventable deaths, the students created a hospital bed that automatically distributes IV medications.
This invention you empowered her to create is clearly beneficial. Last year, Kashemire competed with the club in a national robotics competition. Nyaka WON against other secondary and university schools!
Her success with the robotics club has encouraged her to become a doctor. With the education in tech innovation that you have provided her, she’s confident she’ll be a great doctor!
By investing in Nyaka, you are empowering a generation of women in STEM! If you want to enable more girls like Kashemire to take on the workforce, donate here!

Girls in Rural Uganda are often told to quit school so they can start a family. Without your support, Ruth believes that at 22, she would “be a mom to many children; rather than one of Nyaka’s amazing nurses. Ruth lost her father at a very young age. She and her five younger siblings were sent to live with their grandmother. While attending Primary One, her grandmother couldn't purchase her books or pay school fees. Her education was going to end before her eighth birthday. Ruth accepted that she would be a housemaid, rather than achieve her dream of being a nurse. However, thanks to your support, everything changed for Ruth when her grandmother discovered a FREE school for orphaned children--your Nyaka Primary School. Ruth was a Pioneer Student, part of Nyaka's first class of students. As a student, Ruth watched nurses care for her ill grandmother. She knew she wanted to become a nurse to serve her community, particularly for sick children. Thanks to the strong education foundation you provided Ruth, she made her dreams a reality. Ruth graduated nursing school! Your compassion not only benefited Ruth, but also allowed her to impact the Nyaka community. Today, Ruth is the nurse at your Nyaka;s Vocational Secondary School. Ruth treats sick students so they can stay in school. She also counsels and provides emotional support for students. This is Ruth's dream job because she can inspire students everyday. Young students gain confidence by seeing how Ruth was a Nyaka student who became a medical professional. Because compassionate people like you invested in Ruth over 10 years ago, she is able to continue to inspire Nyaka's female students every day. Can you imagine what the children you are investing in today will do when they grow up?

When Abia was a child, she lost her parents to AIDS. Just a child herself, she was suddenly a mother to her younger siblings. They were children living on their own with no money and no hope of going to school.
This was too much for a child to handle on her own. Fortunately, she discovered your Nyaka Primary School. She and her siblings were three of Nyaka’s first students.
Because of the free education you provided for Abia, she was able to work her way through school to earn her teaching certificate. Her siblings are now finishing their education too, so Abia decided to raise four more orphaned children who needed a loving home.
Today, Abia is the nursery teacher at your Kutamba Primary School! Abia was so inspired by your kindness that she has dedicated her life to offering other orphaned children opportunities. Every day when her students see her, they know that being orphaned will not stop them from reaching their dreams. She is an inspiration to every child!
Click the link below to watch a video about Abia. As you watch Abia’s story, know that it was your love and support that offered her the tools she needed to escape poverty.
