Earthquake Orphan Scholarship Program Update

Since joining GlobalGiving, the Earthquake Orphan Scholarship Program has continued to mentor and serve all 87 students currently enrolled in the program. With the help of our new Global Giving donors and our dedicated, long-term supporters, the EOSP has brought in two new students to the program, placed four additional high-risk students into local boarding school, graducated nine students from "secondary school" (grade 10) who will continue into "college" (grades 11-2), and provided one deserving student with a university scholarship.

Dipsan is one of EOSP’s newest students. He lives in a small, rural village with his mother, grandparents and siblings. Their home and livelihood were destroyed in the 2015 earthquakes, and three years later they continue to live in a makeshift shelter. His mother is the only earner in the family and despite working hard as a farm laborer, she barely earns enough to feed the whole family, let alone pay for education, personal care or medical expenses for her children and elderly parents.

Thanks to the support of HCC’s generous donors, Dipsan is now enrolled in a boarding school near his mother’s home, where he receives an excellent education, nutritious food and medical care. Despite the severe hardships at home, Dipsan has consistently been the top student at his school. He is a bright and motivated child and wants to “study hard and achieve great things in life and make everyone proud.”

Thank you for everything you do to support HCC, your generosity makes all of this possible!
