Thank you for your generous donation to Bahini Education Project!
Two years ago, I started the Bahini Education Project (BEP) with a simple mission: to uplift and support young women from low-income families in rural Nepal. The goal was to help young women in grade 9 complete high school and college so that they can inspire others and become confident leaders in society—so that they have a voice. I wanted to show them that their financial circumstances are not barriers to their education. Through BEP, I hope to inspire young women to believe in themselves and their abilities, and to show them that there is no limit to what they can achieve.
In partnership with the University of British Columbia’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (UBC CHBE), BEP is improving access to education for girls in a rural district of Parbat, Nepal. In May 2024, BEP partnered with the University of British Columbia's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (UBC CHBE) to improve educational access, particularly in STEM fields, for young women in Parbat, Nepal. This initiative leverages the technical knowledge of UBC students and offers a unique opportunity for our girls to learn from them in an online classroom setting. In June 2024, UBC CHBE faculty and students developed a curriculum focused on high school-level math, science, and English for BEP students in Nepal. The program includes weekly pre-recorded lessons, interactive remote sessions, and monthly live virtual meetings where BEP students engage directly with UBC CHBE students. As students learn new concepts, they complete and submit worksheets for feedback and review. In addition to STEM-focused classes, through this initiative, we are excited to foster cross-cultural relationships between UBC students in Vancouver, BC and BEP students.
The BEP x UBC CHBE collaboration began in May 2024. 14 pre-recorded lectures have occurred as of September 2024, covering topics in Math, English, and Reading Comprehension. Topics covered in future months will include the following:
November and December 2024: Environmental Conservation - Empower girls to understand and address local environmental challenges such as water conservation, deforestation, sustainable agriculture, and reducing pollution in the environment (garbage on the ground and in water sources). Students will lead small community projects to actively improve and preserve their surroundings.
January 2025: English speaking and reading comprehension - At the public schools in Nepal, students are taught in Nepali until grade 10, and then switch to English starting in grade 11. We aim to strengthen students' English speaking and reading comprehension skills to prepare them for this transition.
Thanks to your support, we are able to continue this collaboration into 2025!
Thank you,
