We directly impact 30 female students across three schools in Parbat, Nepal. By improving educational retention rates through financial support and mentorship, we empower these young women with the skills and confidence to become influential leaders in their communities, addressing barriers to education and fostering sustainable change. In Nepali, Bahini means "younger sister". It symbolizes the spirit of sisterhood and support that defines our commitment to the empowerment of young women.
About 80% of girls who start primary school drop out by the time they reach grade 11. Some of the reasons for low retention rates are due to help needed at home, marriage, cost of education, and parents' decision to not send their daughters to school. 37% of girls are married before the age of 18 and 10% are married by the age of 15. One of the main factors leading to child marriages is lack of access to education. This project will affect more than 30 female students in Parbat, Nepal.
Bahini Education Project offers skills training, mentorship, financial support, education such as menstrual hygiene management and reproductive health, and prepares girls to attend university. In addition, Bahini Education Project builds relationships with the students' families to foster understanding and acceptance that education for their daughters is a priority. We work with young women in government/public schools who are in grade 9 and provide support throughout their high school years.
The project will directly impact the lives of more than 30 students from low-income families, enabling them to pursue higher education and become confident, empowered leaders in their communities. This long-term investment in education will empower these students to be catalysts for positive change in Parbat, Nepal, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and opportunity throughout their communities.
