Educate & Empower Young Women in Rural Nepal

This year held many beginnings. New lessons. New curiosity. New confidence taking shape.

Since June 2024, the Bahini Education Project has been proud to collaborate with the University of British Columbia Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. This partnership has opened opportunities for our students to learn about science, technology, and engineering and has strengthened their curiosity in these fields. Since 2024, our bahinis have learned from 35 educational videos covering:

• Chemistry
• Biology
• Probability
• Statistics
• Chemical engineering principles
• English
• Reading comprehension
• Coding

These lessons have become part of their routine and have helped students approach challenging subjects with more certainty and less hesitation. We’re excited to continue this collaboration through 2026!

Our first cohort will graduate in April 2026. It’s a milestone that feels close now, and a reminder of how far they’ve come. At the same time, we are selecting new students for the 2026 school year, welcoming the next group of girls who will step into this opportunity.

And learning did not stop in the classroom. We focused on skills that matter in daily life. Skills that expand confidence and curiosity. This included sessions on menstrual hygiene management, communication and public speaking, financial management, and resume writing. These activities help our students understand themselves better, express their ideas, and make informed decisions.

We are excited to see where they go after graduating from high school. We look forward to watching them learn, grow, and lead in their own way.

I’m excited to share a few updates from the past couple of months at Bahini Education Project. Our students have been participating in after-school training programs designed to build their confidence and skills for the future.

In April, we organized a financial literacy training for our bahinis and their mothers, in collaboration with Citizen Forum for Health and Education. The goal was to equip them with essential banking and money management skills. Together, we learned:

• How to open and manage a bank account
• Smart saving and spending habits
• How to deposit money
• An introduction to investing

Moments like these remind us that empowering girls means empowering families too.

In June, we hosted a career development workshop where our students learned how to:

• Write a strong job application
• Create a tailored resume
• Write a professional cover letter

As the new school year begins, we’re excited to share that our bahinis are now entering Grade 12, a huge milestone! We provided books, uniforms, shoes, and other supplies to support their studies.

We have a 100% retention rate, every girl in our program is still in school. In a country where 80% of girls drop out before Grade 11, this is an extraordinary success.

And we’re growing. By the end of 2025, we’ll welcome two new students entering Grade 9 into the program. Your support ensures we can continue to say “yes” to more girls who deserve the same opportunity to learn and lead.
