Economic Resilience for 125 Women and Girls in DRC

1. What progress has been made so far?

As of this reporting period, the project Economic Resilience for 125 Women and Girls in DRC has not yet commenced due to insufficient funding. Only $30 has been raised out of the $25,624 goal, and therefore activities described in the original project plan have not been implemented. However, preparatory steps have been completed to ensure a rapid and effective start once funds become available:

• Community needs assessment reaffirmed the high demand for economic support among women and girls in displacement settings.
• Target beneficiary lists and criteria have been reviewed and verified with local leaders.
• Procurement plans and trainer agreements have been drafted to enable swift activation of training and support once funding is secured.
• Partnerships with local women’s groups have been formalized to support outreach and follow-up once activities begin.

2. What hasn’t worked well?

The primary challenge has been lack of financial resources, which has prevented the project from moving from planning to implementation. Despite good interest from communities and partners, the gap between the fundraising goal and funds raised has halted activities.

We also observed that limited online visibility and few project page views may be contributing to low donor engagement, a challenge we intend to address with updated outreach efforts once this report is approved.

3. Next steps

Once sufficient funds are secured, the project will move forward with the following actions:

• Launch economic skills trainings for 125 women and girls.
• Provide starter kits and financial literacy support.
• Facilitate market linkage activities to strengthen income generation.
• Continue community engagement to ensure gender-sensitive and context-appropriate delivery.
• Provide ongoing monitoring and reporting to donors on impact as activities progress.

5. Learning & Reflection

This reporting period has underscored the importance of both fundraising visibility and ongoing communication with potential donors. We are exploring ways to improve engagement through compelling storytelling, updated photos, and segmentation of outreach to donors who may be especially interested in women’s economic empowerment.

We remain committed to mobilizing the necessary support and will update donors regularly on progress toward implementation.

The project “Economic resilience for 125 women and girls in DRC” is very crucial as it consists of providing technical training to 125 women and girls on establishing small-scale businesses and IGA activities. It also consists of strengthening socio-economic resilience and economic empowerment through gender-sensitive livelihood initiatives and IGA as well as providing each woman and girl with a simple dignity kit for her monthly hygiene. In addition to the objectives mentioned above, this project has also to provide each woman and girl with small financial support to improve her socio-economic situation through IGA and provide capacity development and coaching to all the beneficiaries of the project.

Being among the women and girls who are directly affected by the conflicts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the 125 women and girls would benefit from the outcomes of this project as it must address their socio-economic situation. The project will help these internally displaced women and girls to rise out of poverty, malnutrition, education and provide good healthcare to their children. All the 125 women and girls as well as their families have to improve their socio-economic situation through Income-Generating Activities.

While thanking all those who have already donated to this project, we would like to call up the generosity of other potential donors to support these women and girls in giving their donations. The ten dollars, twenty dollars or more donated, will make a change over the lives of the direct beneficiaries of this project.

We recognize the challenges due to the ongoing crisis situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, but we promise to do our best in order implemnt this project and provide narrative and financial report.
