The war in Ethiopia's northern region of Tigray has impoverished thousands of women leading their families. In this project, 360 mothers heading their nearly 1,380-member households will be economically empowered through self-help groups (SHGs). Our training programs will focus on using electric pans, making injera (staple Ethiopian bread), sewing and handicrafts, agriculture, and more. This project aims to improve their confidence, foster self-reliance, and uplift their families out of poverty.
In the destruction of war and looting, families led by women have lost their means of income. Across the drought-stricken region, women and their families are left with nothing. They suffer the trauma of physical and sexual violence. Access to resources is limited, especially for women. They are not just fighting for survival and stability. They are fighting to regain their lives.
All My Sisters Around The World For Peace is creating a solution by opening an economic empowerment program for 360 women and their families. In 8 towns across Tigray, women are engaging in small-scale, income-generating activities to build independence. We additionally aim to provide post-war mental health support, educational resources, sanitary products, and other necessities.
Reopening access to economic resources and opportunities allows women-led families to recover and rise from the aftermath of war. Economically independent women can empower their families, their fellow women, and their communities.
