Last December, our organization finished the cohort in GlobalGiving´s Climate Action Fund, supporting rural and Indigenous communities that lead the way to a greener future. It has been marvelous to join this experience with the other four great projects around the Globe. Perhaps the answer to the most important question is still pending: What shall we do about climate crisis? We would like to share with you some of our thoughts on the issue based on our project:
Perhaps the suggestion made by recently deceased Gustavo Esteva, a good friend and a very well known intellectual and activist on social and environmental themes is useful: instead of trying to peek into the future, we will have to look around us to discover what specific men and women are already doing from multiple trenches to resist this disastrous combination of patriarchy and decadent capitalism. We will discover a vast set of initiatives not only for defense but also for the construction of creative options that harmonize tradition and modernity.
We are at a key moment in human history; The political and social decisions that we make in the coming years are going to have profound impacts, not only on our lives and those of our children, but on the lives of every living being on the planet. The basic solutions are a triple civilizational change: ecological-environmental, political-social and spiritual.
It is not something easy: the historic assault on Mother Earth and our community spheres has intensified. Violence is escalating. Recent storms and droughts have exposed the tearing of the environmental as well as the social fabric. We require a huge and imaginative community effort to regenerate these tissues, which in reality are one: the fabric of life.
We hope that our Regeneration project that you are contributing will continue being part of these initiatives.
