The violent armed conflict in Ukraine continues not intermittently but constantly. This has, and is, having a devastating impact on the country and on children and families. The economic situation is dire with Ukrainians 20% poorer now than they were at the end of the Soviet Union era. Inflation has reached 45% and the local currency has plummeted. The war in the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east of the country has compounded an already fragile situation.
With over 6,000 deaths and as many as 2 million displaced, ChildAid has this appeal to save lives. In eastern Ukraine heavy armament bombing is quite the norm, to quote one lady "Our home was destroyed, I lost my husband, I was ready to give up - but my two boys need me and that is all that matters" or a father "I don't care who is in power. All I want is peace. I want my child to not jump at every sound". The economy is rotten to the core. Children and families have literally nothing.
EUREKA (Eastern Ukraine Relief & Emergency Kids Aid) will: a) Bring the scale of the humanitarian crisis to the public attention b) Raise funds for humanitarian relief and community restoration c) Work with local partners to aid mutual forgiveness and reconciliation
Quite simply with items such as insulin, winter clothing and fuel lives will be saved. They already are but more help is needed.
