This is a community development effort impacting several small villages - totaling 400+ individuals - through empowering work including summer camps, literacy programs, clean water projects, community development training, meeting basic needs of villagers, and supporting staffing needs to keep the work going.
A mountain village in East Asia is home to 200 individuals. After completing one water-well project, we want to continue to serve the individuals in the area and empower them to be part of the community development they want to see. The villagers are far from many resources and even speak their own dialect that serves to further isolate them.
Through meeting basic needs and providing resources like PPE, access to clean water, and other needs that may arise, individuals can engage further in their community development. They can then engage with summer camps to learn English and storytelling, drama, or other areas that may interest them. They can even attend the weekend literacy workshops. This allows them to further engage with other resources that may not be available to them.
Long term we hope to create sustainability in communities. Summer camps are attended by 50 children/week-long session; in over 10 years, 300 children have been served and 3 have gone on to college. Reliable, consistent access to clean water, education and literacy programs, and further community development planned and led by the community for their community is our hope. As we create space to share information about empowering community development with others we hope to see others empowered.
