A year has passed since that day that would remain forever in our memory. The 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck at 23:49 on September 7, 2017, the most intense in almost a century in Mexico, and the most intense recorded globally in that year. The worst-hit states where Chiapas and Oaxaca, leaving a huge number of victims, that was difficult to quantify.
Since the emergency, we initiated support actions in coordination with allied Associations to support the victims. Since then, the work together has been hard but very rewarding. We have carried out the reconstruction of homes, educational centers and productive centers and community centers, which has allowed thousands of people to recover their lives. Seeing so many women, men, children and teeenagers recover their joy, keeps us firm in this process of reconstruction. Solidarity is the engine of this project. All this would not have been possible without the generosity of each one of the donors, to whom we want to thank today.
The reconstruction process is long, we have already completed the first stage, but there is still much to be done. We are currently preparing to start the second stage, which we are sure will be carrying out successfully with the support of GlobalGiving, our allied NGOs, and the donations that we kindly receive for this cause. We will continue to report the progress and details about the activities we will be carrying out in this second stage that is about to begin.
We are encouraged to continue focusing our efforts in supporting the rebuilding not only homes and schools, but also in supporting erecting a society based on collaborative work and solidarity.
On behalf of all the communities and people benefited until now, we want to thank you again for your great generosity and support.
Warmly,
NGO Impacto Team
