With pleasure we share with you the results of our program during the year 2016.
At the end we managed to attend 37 children and 30 girls in the program that they come from different communities of Santiago Atitlán, which is a community with 98% of the indigenous population; to provide good care our teachers must speak the local Mayan language.
All the children received at least one visit a week from some of the three teachers. Each child has a work plan developed by a multidisciplinary team, teachers teach the parents to carry out activities to comply with the plan.
This plan involves other professionals according to the needs of each child. One case is that of Edson Anthony who was referred by a hospital to be able to follow up for presenting Nephrotic Syndrome and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
"My development was normal, I talked, I walked, but one day my parents because of family problems, they could not continue my treatment because of the cost of it. One day I became seriously ill so I was transferred to one of the largest hospitals in the country. I was hospitalized for more than two months and there I was diagnosed with Cerebral Atrophy because of Arterial Hypertension, and Convulsive Syndrome.
My parents take me to my medical checkup, every three months I travel to the city for my checkups with the cardiologist, neurologist, endocrinologist, and nephrologist, it is very tiring to be traveling, what I don't like is that sometimes I get blood tests because it hurts a lot.
My mom always takes me to my appointments, I attend physiotherapy once a week, I am also receiving psychomotricity and one of my teacher visits me once a week to my home.
I like to play with toys, listen to music and draw with bright colors. I am a very smiling and happy child with my parents and sisters. "
